I've replaced my 10 year old MacBook Pro with a Mac mini, but can't get the display to work with DVI connection. Still works perfectly with the MacBook, and connects to the MacMini with VGA connection from monitor.

Display is static and snow, and says resolution needs changing, but no way to do it as can't get Mac up & running. Monitor is 22 inch Samsung SyncMaster at 1680 x 1080 with analog connection.

Help or suggestions appreciated.

IBM PC, 128 KB RAM, Twin 320 Kb floppy drives, PC-DOS 1.1. A real step up from the VIC 20

Known issue, using a USB-C > DVI adaptor instead works apparently.

" I received feedback from Apple on my problem that it is a known error with some Macs. I am going to meet with Apple Support again this afternoon as they told me there is a display plist that we can try to reset to see if it resolves the issue. If that does not resolve it thy are working on a fix that will be included in a future incremental software update"

Had exactly this issue with a new Mac Mini. Temporary workaround is to unplug/plug the DVI connection after bootup, that should restore the display until next restart.. It's something to do with a conflict between the DVI/HDMI adapter and the default refresh rate of the Mac at bootup - Mac seemed to think monitoer would support 30Hz over HDMI, but the monitor couldn't so black screen.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'll have to wait until the DVI to USB-C cable arrives

And while not Mac, it works on the Korean monitors (I have it on a Qnix) which only work with DVI (they have no scaler etc), and plugged into laptop (HP Dragonfly) via USB-C and it works perfect.

Just plugged it in and it worked. I was expecting to spend 30-60mins of wrangling to make it work before giving up (but it just worked).
