Hi,
I recently had a new roomate move in, he has an Imac, we are having a difficult time connecting it to my wireless network. It sees the network, but will not connect. I removed my network security thinking that might be a problem, but still no luck. The Imac self assigns an ip address of 169.something. I tried manually setting the ip address, the airport window says connected to the n etwork and lists the ip I nassigned, but it still won't connect to the internet.Meanwhile my PC stays connected and works fine. I don’t know much about Imacs, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your router uses both b/g standards try switching to g only. Also you can try changing channels.

Do you also have MAC Address filtering security on the router?

When you connected with manual IP, what are your DNS Settings. Did you set that manually?
Can you ping any external IP addresses?

I finally got it to work, had to go to the TCP/IP panel and assign a static IP address and manually enter the router address. It seems to be working ok now.

You may find that disabling IPv6 on the iMac will allow you to go back to using DHCP. (Same panel that you set the static IP to, change the drop down for IPv6 to disabled)
