Hey guys,

I want a 750gb hard drive for my 13inch 2009 mbp. What's recommended? I wanted to get something faster than my 5200 rpm but was worried about heat?

I will eventually replace the SuperDrive with an SSD.

I've run plenty of 7200's in the MacBook Pro, 13, 15 and 17" alike. Heat isn't a problem. Ideally I'd get the SSD first, make that your main drive replacement and then send your existing drive to the Superdrive slot using an Optibay adapter. Then replace that drive later on when you find what you want. It'll just be for storage so using a 5400 would be fine though.

That's a great suggestion thanks. I read it's best to put the ssd in the SuperDrive slot due to the motion sensor where the current hard drive goes? Do you use intel sSd's?

I use an OCZ Vertex 3 SSD which works great in my MBP. My fiancee has a Vertex 2 SSD as she doesn't have a SATA3 MBP. As for the SMS you may be right about that. Worth double checking but either way I'd go in the order of things that I suggested earlier.

I just picked up a 500GB 7200 rpm Seagate Momentus XT for my macbook pro. It has 4GB of flash memory which it dynamically uses for frequently accessed data, making a kind of a hybrid drive. I am planning to install it when Lion is released this month. Just another option to consider...

FYI: After I installed the Momentus XT*, the start-up time on my Macbook went from 46 sec to 24 sec.

*Also installed OS 10.7 which may also have affected the start-up time.
