It could be faulty. I would video the problem so they can see it. But if you are not happy with the performance and expected better, certainly tell the retailer. A brand new computer, espeically a premium one, shouldn't really have any issues with normal low demand software. If they knew it wasn't suited to particular requirements, they probably should perhaps have informed you on purchase, as I have had store staff say that something may suit me better (it is part of the sales process)The best stores will give you a credit to use on another product. Some even have refund policies.

I 100% agree with this, unless you were misled, and by that I mean seriously misled, you have no recourse nor should you seek it.

The right thing to do here is take your lumps.

I sympathize with your situation, but you seem refreshingly open to the idea of it anyways. Good for you.

Some more details on the issue might be interesting. Could it be bad WiFi conductivity for instance? If so then Ethernet could rule that out or in.

If this is the tiny one with 1 usb plug for everything, it's an unusable piece of junk from the time I had to set one up for someone. My old dell inspiron 1525 does some things quicker.

Well I've just had a play with it myself and it was definitely sluggish in Google spreadsheets, Mission Control was really slow to respond with the browser in play, and even things like Facebook were sluggish to scroll..

Installed AdBlock and ClicktoFlash and rebooted now things seem to be much much better, but we'll keep an eye on it for a couple of hours of normal usage.

In the meantime I received a reply from JB HiFi this morning saying returning it would be no problem at all, they just want me to restore it and bring it in the original box with receipt etc. Super impressed with their response really, that's excellent service given there's really no legal requirement for them to do anything. I was always a bit on the fence about JB HiFi but this has swung me into the true believer camp.

Apple does have a 30 day return policy via their Online Store, and Retail Stores (which we obviously don't have any of), but if bought via an authorised reseller I don't think there's the same 30 day policy - it's up to the individual reseller.

JB Hifi are great with returns.
I purchased a copy took it home and then found it was not really up to what i wanted it for. Restored everything and took it back 2 days later and exchanged it for something that was a lot better

Harvey norman did the same for me with a laptop, it really depends how you treat them back. go in guns blazing and they will put all their defences up.

It does make you wonder though what they actually do with these units when they get returned. Hopefully they don't attempt to resell them again as new! So, do they have the opportunity to return them back to their supplier?

I reckon they would sell them as "demo units". There's no way they would be able to get a MacBook looking like new in the packaging; they'd have to re-shrink wrap and somehow wind up the cables into the tiny bundles that are impossible to do by hand (unless you're a skilled Foxconn worker). I know this from years of experience selling iPhones etc. when I upgrade haha.

Partly on topic, sorta, tanget-wise. I've read the odd review, and the appeared to be fine. Lower powered, don't expect quad i7, but perhaps real world is not as good.

Anyone else have one?
