Your issue is the age of your hardware. Running 10.10 or above on a machine that only has a Core 2 duo processor and a standard HDD. OS X 10.9 and above was designed to run off SSD drives.

The machine you have is right at the minimum specs to be running that OS hence why its slow. If you downgrade to OS to 10.6 or 10.7 you will find a massive improvement on speed.

does that mean, i can only install 2gb and 4gb rams and not use 8gb & 16gb ?

As i already have 2x 2gb of 1067 MHz DDR3

Perhaps check to see if that ram type is still available to purchase. You might find its horrendous in price.

Always match your ram. From memory the iMac 27" has 4 slots so either do 2x 8gb or 4x 4gb to reach 16gb of ram. If you have unmatched sticks then you'll likely slow things down.

coz last week i got an update on my OS and thats when all the slowdowns started.

So is it gonna be Upgrading ram or downgrade os ?

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Even with more RAM its still gonna struggle,

Also downgrading to an earlier OSX can also break a whole lot of apps (looking at you iTunes and others) that may have also been updated...- tread carefully...

It is never going to be a rocket however adding more RAM will certainly help and maybe rolling back a couple of OSX versions may extend it's useful life.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I had the model iMac in question, my son just gave it away recently, while it worked with 4GB of RAM it certainly did not work well especially considering spinner HDD. I added 4GB of RAM and it certainly performed considerably better. Adding RAM will be the cheapest quickest (two screws) upgrade that could be done.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Make sure you check if your iMac supports 4gb modules in each slot. Some of the Apple devices in the past were limited in their maximum memory support. EveryMac should be able to help http://www.everymac.com

update

i had a chat with my company head.

He just called a apple service person to check my mac on Monday...

Lets see what can be done..

Upgrading to the latest system is what i am looking for...

You know what would i have done if i had just done it myself...

as i already have 2x 2gb, i would buy 1x 8gb & 1x 4gb = 16 GB (ta da)

No that i know (thanks to you guys) i wont do that...
