By the way, we two iMac here at home - one is actually a Mac Mini running Windows Vista (Bootcamp) as a Media Center due to its size. But I wouldn't really say this one or that one is better. I use what works...

I actually thought the latest round of Mac/PC ads were quite distasteful. Have you watched the "I'm a PC" ads? Instead of trying cheap shots at the competition they show actual people.

I agree, I was actually put off Mac's, as I thought it was a very childish stab at Microsoft.

That said, I have used Mac's recently and they are quite intuitive and fun to use. I couldn't see myself replacing my Vista box though, as I am mostly a gamer.

What's stopping me switching to a mac is no right click. I know I could use ctrl-click or a mouse but it is much slower to work with. What are your experiences, is it easy to adjust? I suppose with the new MacBook and MacBook Pro's there are no buttons and with my current laptop i hardly use the buttons any way. How hard was the switch?

The right-click support is there since the first Mac OS X. We have a Kensington USB mouse and right-click always worked. On a Macbook you can set the right option and have right-click by tapping the trackpad with two fingers simultaneously, side-by-side.

And I am the Windows user...

I found an amazing feature available on Leopard (that I know of - unsure if it was introduced in Tiger).

Go to your Keyboard and Mouse in System Preferences and select the option "For secondary clicks, place two fingers on the trackpad and then click the button".

Sure, it will still annoy people that would prefer a physical button for right click, but I actually found this option very intuitive (works well with the two fingers to scroll option), and having a single physical button means you won't accidentally hit the wrong button.

Quite funny how people still think there is no right click, yet its been supported for quite some time. Even the mouse they give you with imacs have right click.

I made the switch about 6 months before after using windows for as long as i can remember and I can tell you that I am loving every single thing of it...Leopard is the best thing ever!!

What are you on? I only post Twitter about the Windows updates because at the end I have about 12 or more PCs running Windows and I am the one doing it - but the Mac OS machines also get updates, and my wife doesn't like when it asks for restart, since she leaves her iMac on with programs open all the time.

It amazes me how Mac users seem to conveniently ignore that there are enormous updates for Mac OS, iTunes, iMovies, QuickTime, and more, every month. And I don't think a 400MB Mac OS update is trivial.

Mauricio, was more in jest, should not be so serious. Actually was a multi-day multiple installation I recall seeing. (I was sure you had reached 7+ installations before giving up and taking a different config/install)
Actually far from an over-zealous Mac user here... I like it because it works and I get significantly more productivity that I have ever achieved out of Windows platform. Greater uptime and lack of BSOD or just hanging and timing out in MS Office Apps.
What does annoy me is that some of the Mac apps are just a little too simple... and lack some of the features found in apps like outlook (however at least I do not have to worry about ScanPST and rescuing overbloated monolithic outlook data files that get corrupted)What is great is the closer integration of the apps.
Biggest bugbear for me right now is the lack of reliability in MobileMe and right now the AppStore.

The Windows Update is not a big deal. Most of the machines I let do it automatically so it won't really worry me. The only thing I have to manage is the servers because some run virtual machines - so I want to first have the virtual machines updated, then update the server and shutdown everything to reboot.

More of an intensive process than anything really.

Having said that I had Windows Server 2008 running for a few months before having to reboot this month for the patches.

And I haven't had any BSOD in the last couple of years that were related to software - the only one I had this year was because of a HDD problem.

So overall I am quite pleased that Windows reliability has gone up. However I understand the number of programs some people install - some from not so reliable sources, greatly contribute for the instability of their systems. Obviously I don't go around downloading and installing everything "cool" I see, and even less on server boxes...

Well maybe not just BSOD but a HP mini note that freezes all the time or out of the blue, cannot be productive. ;-)Downtime is downtime...
Had my first kernel panic for the year this month... not isolated to one platform and still annoying... ended up with a corrupted PST file from Outlook, everything else ok

absolutely XP SP3 has been a huge improvement and for me, it can keep that V word away a little longer, even if it hides under many disguises (Windows 7, Mohave or anything else that comes by)
