WillieBobo: I've tried the Terminal thing before and it came back with "No matching processes belonging to you were found".

OK it looks like the Dock application is simply not runnng,

Have a look in
Hard Drive -> System -> Library -> CoreServices:

and reopen dock.app

Just tried that and the Dock.app was unresponsive. Double clicked on it with no results. Control + clicked on it then selected open, again, with no results.
Thanks for the suggestions though, Gary.
Think it's safe to assume that it's dead and gone.
How do I go about setting up this new account to the way the broken account used to be?

While I was crying, I thought I would just do a full Erase & Install and start anew, away from the whoring ways of my former account.
Is there any reason why this would be a bad idea?

'Cause the fact you can create another userID that functions fine, shows that screwup is with the individual user preferences somewhere, rather than the system files,

UNless you have been logged on as an as admin, your ability to corrupt system files as a regular user is resonably limited.

OSX keeps its user files fairly clearly seperate from the system ones,

Basically you want to copy everything from your broken ID, except the Library subdirectory, and you should be fine.

A full reinstall should not be required

Good point. Think I'm still paranoid from all my years of smoking Windows.
Thanks for the help, Gary.
What's the best way for me to copy all my files over between accounts.
Sorry for all the questions.

It honestly sounds like there are permissions issues with some of your preferences stored in your profile.

You should check that all files inside ~/ are owned by your user. Does anyone else use the machine?
