Is this good ?

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/WKAAPP4720144/Apple-27-iMac-CTO-5K-Display-Intel-Quad-i7-40GHz

will even add extra ram just to max it out..

That's the old model - show's out of stock...

What about this, from the Apple store?

https://www.apple.com/nz/shop/buy-mac/imac?product=MNE92X/A&step=config#

If you do go the route of a new iMac still max out the memory to 32Gb but do not buy the upgrade from Apple you will pay a fortune. Buy from third party suppliers at a fraction of the cost.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I don't think the memory on new iMacs is user upgradable. I think its soldered onto the logic board now.

This from the Apple support site for all the iMac models 2006 to 2017 - 20" to 27" models

Get memory specifications and learn how to install memory in iMac

21 inch is not soldered, but very difficult and warranty voiding to get to. 27 inch has a flap above the power port which opens to the 4 slots and is easy to change the RAM.... Comes with 2X 4GB as standard.

A Pro tip (literally): If you are buying Macs for business. Call Apple and tell them what you want to buy and ask for a discount. Usually lands me a 5% discount.

Hmmm - I think the latest machine at the highest spec should do you nicely.

Quite a turn around from the original question of how to speed up my 8 year old iMac.

Enjoy that - it should last you quite a while...

Our design team at work went very quiet about new Macs after the latest WWDC. Me thinks Finance will need to prepare it's self for the iMac Pro release.
