gzt: I feel like I'm getting spherical vision distortion. Rounded corners on everything. The window animations feel more annoying than usual. If there is a GUI to turn window animation off I would use it.

It could be goodbye to Chrome - Safari feels blindingly fast on Big Sur. I like it.

Does System Preferences > Accessibility > Display > Reduce Motion help?

Throw in Reduced Transparency too, makes a big improvement

No change that I could see.

Am I bricked?

Not sure why I decided to do the upgrade....
But now it’s stopped and saying update failed (got to about 6mins remaining).
So leap of faith I rebooted and it started again but then got back to this.

My option is to set the target disk mode to allow it to be used as a drive for another device....Grrr
Anyway I can get back ??? Or ami bricked.

I’ve a mid 2014 13in model and now just discovered this forum and link a few posts back about potential for getting bricked....

What should I do? Restart into target disk mode? I’ve no other laptop or pc apart from the wife’s Lenovo which I best not touch...

Success, got into recovery...
But can’t seem to connect to my synology time machine backup...
I click on it but it says it’s having trouble connecting to servernamehere.local

So I try smb://192.168.1.xxx/ and I get a prompt for user name and password.
If I get that wrong it tells me, but I think I got it right so but it didn’t do much.

Have I got the path wrong?

Had this problem with my relatives iMac.

Upgrading via System Preferences it says 3 hrs for 12Gb, I go away for an hour and come back and it is installing with white progress bar at approx 95% complete with no estimate to completion. I go away and come back 15 min's later and it has rebooted and all looks normal except 'About this Mac' says I still have Catalina 10.15.7 on board and System Preferences says there is the Big Sur 11.1 awaiting download and install. Did this twice with same result. There is no Big Sur install icon in dock or applications folder.

After searching the Apple Discussions found that this is occurring for people. So after taking some of the discovered advice on board I waited for a couple further version releases and gave it go this week.

I successfully upgraded my relatives machine to Big Sur 11.2.3

This is a 21.5" iMac 2019 base model.

I turned off Wifi and forced it to use the Ethernet connection to the router

I started in Safe Mode and upgraded from that state.

It took 3½ hours with 2 hours of those just for the 12.*Gb download via UFB over optic.

It was very slow to install with long (10min) black screens - very disconcerting.

Anyway it is done now and all is good 🤞

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
