Behodar: I'm calling it a glitch as Apple states that only servers should be 64-bit by default. If your desktop clean install went to 64-bit, then something is not performing as Apple says it should.

For the record, my clean install is 32-bit.

Also, could you please point me to where Apple says by default 32bit?

It's only logical given not all OS X software is 64 bit at the moment.

If the kernel was running in 64 bit mode no 32 bit program would be able to be launched or run right ?

32-bit apps will run with a 64-bit kernel, but 32-bit kexts can't. 64-bit apps can run with a 32-bit kernel too.

Edit: Aaroona, with that in mind, are you sure that you're running the 64-bit kernel? Check kernel_task in Activity Monitor; just because everything else is 64 doesn't mean that the kernel is.

kernal task?

I did uname -a and it came up saying RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64

now when i press 32 on boot, then run uname -a, it comes up with RELEASE_I386 i386

assuming im reading that right, that means I actually was in 64bit.

No 64-bit by default for me either after doing a clean install on my new MBP. Otherwise noticeably snappier just in the short time I've played around with it, looking forward to doing my iMac maybe on the weekend, should be good!

10.6.1 is out. Hopefully it'll fix some of the issues that people are having... new HP printer drivers too, which will hopefully get my printer working again (I'm at work at the moment so can't test it yet).

Since all of my hardware etc was working, and i wasnt having any troubles with SL in the first place (lucky I guess), I actually havent noticed any difference.

Pretty much everything worked with me out of the box.

For Menumeters just use iStat Menus instead, it's much nicer to use & has full support for Snow Leopard - Link

I have actually found a bug in SL (not suprising though) with 10.6.1 update (not sure if it was happening prior to update)

I know that when you hold down shift and minimize, the window animation goes slow.

However, if you have the new option of minimizing windows to their icons enabled under the dock settings, open a finder, minimize it, then hit command shift A (or U) or any other shortcut that will make that window become active again, it will come up ever so slowly, whereas it should just open straight up.

The moment you disable the hide to icons option in the dock settings, this "lag" goes away straight away.

Have done a fresh install of SL since I first noticed the bug, and its still happening.

Snow Leopard seems to be running ok ! Apart from initial issues with it losing my wireless network each time I came back from standby and also having to re-enter the password all the time, it now seems to have dissapeared by some painstaking add/remove network tasks Ive been doing over the past few weeks.

As for the install....
Purchased the CD, spent 3hours backing up, finally went to install and the disk was heavily scratched ! ( I didnt know this until about the 4 error message telling me to clean the CD). Took it back to the store and was told to go home and call apple. Called apple, logged a job#, went back to the store and waited a few days for a replacment.

Got the new CD, went to install and all went fine, apart from it "hung" after the first 15mins while it was trying to re-boot itself for the first time prior to the actual install.

FUN.
All seems to be going ok. Might just re-install.
How do you excatly do a clean install ? Im kinda new to mac's.

I found my only game no longer wants to work....
Sim City 4
My firefox icon dissapeared and was replaced with a ? (fixed that).
And my battery also doesnt seem to last as long..... "replace soon". Mind you it is 2.5 years old.

How do you excatly do a clean install ? Im kinda new to mac's.

put in the disc, and if you are already in Mac os now, just go onto system preferences > Start up disk > and then select the DVD and click restart.
Or, alternatively, you can hold down C when the computer is booting.

Once you get into the setup windows etc. Make sure you go through to the disk utlity and reformat the hard drive (BACK UP FIRST) and then continue with the installation. Clean install.

Can't comment on Sims. Have you done a google search to see if theres an update or something? (Probably have, but gotta ask it anyway :P)

And I'd say you're right about the battery, 2.5 years and they begin to wear out usually.

PS: I take it you did an upgrade instead of a clean install?
