Sup... yes upgrade rather than clean.

When you say back up.... is time machine ok for that or will I need to re-install all my programs and files seperatly off a seperate back up altogether?

As for simcity... it was a dodgy copy, it loads then locks up after selecting a city. Im not too fussed, ive done my dash with that and summer is almost here!

As long as you run Time Machine, then do a clean install as soon as you can afterwards, you will be able to restore from TM and have your computer back to exactly where you were prior to the clean install.

I did a clean install on my brand new MBP before I'd even used it and man is it quick!! I'm yet to install SL on my 2009 iMac (going to do a clean install but need to dedicate a weekend for it), but right now my MBP feels quicker than the iMac, so once that's installed it should be smokin'!!!

I bought my iMac in June so being my first one I was new to the Mac and OS X scene as well. Because of that I've spent a lot of time installing and uninstalling new programs and just experimenting in general to learn how it all works, and while I know that Macs are anecdotally supposed to be much less problematic than a PC when upgrading to a new OS, I still think that in my case at least I will certainly reap more benefit from doing a clean install (or an erase and install as I should be calling it) than an upgrade.

As an aside, having spent a few months using it (the iMac) and with my MBP now running SL and seeing how smooth it is I will NEVER EVER go back to a PC. NEVER!!!

Getting OT here but anyway, lots of rumours starting to filter through about new iMacs being released soon; even though they are rumours might be worth waiting a few weeks to see what happens.

@Gooseybhai

Try going Get info on the Sim City 4 app and see if you can make it run in 32 bit. You might have to install Rosetta.

No worries if you can't be bothered i'm just the type of guy who likes to the chew the cud and suggest things to fix stuff.

Thanks for the suggestion... I will try and give it a go. I installed rosetta originally.

Upgrade was horrible, had kernal panics every 10 minutes even after doing 3 clean installs. Fixed by booting into 64-bit now I'm lovin it :)

Haven't noticed a big improvement on my iMac G5 but a couple of little tweaks to expose which I like.

Anyone using iCal? I haven't been able to make iCal switch to New Zealand Daylight Time, still on NZ Standard Time which means the sync to my mobile phone goes an hour out. Weird seeing as the Time & Date pref pane changed to NZDT no problem.

Hi, might be slightly off topic, could it be that your mobile is sync'ing to network time?  My vodafone landline is an hour behind in terms of the caller ID network time....and the handset displays the current local time set myself.   I would find it very odd if your Ical was an hour out yet your system time was correct. Have you tried changing the server you sync to for time and/or disable to automatic time update?
