Writer of the West Wing (Best TV series ever made in my opinion), Moneyball, and Studio 60, is back with a new drama called The Newsroom, and I can't highly enough recommend it. It has one of the best speeches in it I have seen in a long time (Those of you who recall The West Wing will remember).

If you get a chance, have a watch, I really enjoyed it a lot.

I have to say EP4 is likely the best episode of TV I've watched in the last 5 years, if not ever.

I've only seen up to Episode 3 but yeah it's so refreshing to watch a properly decent TV programme again. It's preachy in all the best possible ways Sorkin can be, and despite my general dislike for Mac and Maggie, almost everything else makes up for it. Jane Fonda was particularly great in the last episode. Looking forwardf to catching up with episode four.

EP4 is just so epic. I'd been keen to hear if you thought it was good too.

It's not for me. The dialogue feels forced, overtly banterish for the sake of it. Sorkin doesn't have any nuance, he's either all go with the dialogue, or all stop. There's no inbetween. It's an exhausting watch.

I thought it was too preachy and just because it's on HBO so he can be freer with language doesn't make it any better, I didn't find the characters that appealing and stopped after EP1.

Is it on Sky or are you watching it from 'other sources'?

The first ep was free on Soho I think as a teaser.

I've enjoyed the first 5 episodes, the opening speech in episode 1 is certainly a good 'un. Have been some good episodes since then but I'm a bit annoyed at the preachiness and it's a bit saccharin for me. I also wish they'd tone down the relationship crap. That's one of the reasons I liked the West Wing so much (its own faults aside), it was mostly on topic and love-dovey crud played a minor part. I want grit damn it!

HBO released the first episode on a whole bunch of sites so you might even be able to track it down via iTunes if your not a fan of "Other Sources".

So far it is the best new show of 2012, I am bias though as a Massive West Wing fan  Laughing

Yup West Wing was the best series ever created. Newroom could take over potentially. I have this awesome box set I bought from Amazon.
