Batman Movie Question

I saw this movie and one thing has been bugging me since..

At the end Batman "dies", and after this, Robin comes on the scene. I remember Batman and Robin working together, and this doesn't seem possible after the ending put in place at the end of the movie.

Obviously they are setting up for a Robin spinoff, but no Batman?

Given the way it ended, I can't see how you could go back and write them together again!

Great film aye!?!

If you see the end scene of the movie (with alfred in the cafe) you will see that Batman faked his own death. As for the Robin spinoff.....i think it would be AWESOME, but alas, my understanding is that there will be no movie.

The main reason for this is that Chris Nolan has said that he is finished with the franchise and both Anne Hathaway and Joseph Gordon Levitt have said they are not interested in doing any further movies unless Chris is at the helm.

Only time (and how much money they are offered) will tell though

I suppose the point is that Nolan's trilogy exists in it's own little universe - there's no single canon for the majority of comic book characters, so you can consider these three movies to be their own isolated interpretation of the Batman mythos.

Also, Robin John Blake doesn't exist in the comics as such, but seems to be a bit of an amalgam of Dick Grayson (the original Robin, who became Nightwing and a police officer in Bludhaven), Jason Todd (who was the second Robin and was an orphan with anger issues) and Tim Drake (the third Robin, who worked out Batman's secret identity after the death of Jason Todd).

The movie also leaves it fairly ambiguous as to what Blake does with the Batcave - there's no reason why he couldn't adopt the Batman moniker, for example.

Good answers already posted... I'd just like to add that DC Comics/Warner Bros are sure to roll out more Batman movies, and soon. There's too much money to be made for them not to try.
But Nolan's Batman trilogy is such a tough act to follow I suspect they'll have Batman in more of a supporting role for their inevitable Justice League movie.

Though personally I'd like to see Batman go back to the gothic style like Tim Burton's films or The Animated Series (heck a film version similar to the 'Arkham' games would be awesome too, lots of possibilities)

But a Robin spinoff? No way, we're here for the Bat ;)
