Ok, so as you all know, I was loving 'The Americans'.

It's come to an end this season, sadly.

So I thought "Arrow" might be something interesting and fun to replace my blob out time with...

...OH GOD...  can someone please recommend some good medication so my head doesn't hurt while attempting to watch that one?

So, the story, which they explain to you at the start of every show, is that he's back to avenge his dads list of 40 bad guys, one at a time, one each week...

...he's the green goblin, and superman with out the phone booth!

Really?????

Please someone tell me that the plot is going to improve and that's not just going to be rinse and repeat for 16 weeks?!

It reminds me of the days of Knight Rider, but at least that was on at 7:30pm and we got a new gadget in the car each week... oh and I was 10!

You want us to spoil it ? :-)

There is a story arc to it which is quite enjoyable .. lots of backstory flashbacks that sort of thing.

I second Breaking Bad!  Awesome show :-)

If you've not seen it .. rent it out from your video shop or Fatso (or if you have dubious morals, steal it from the inter tubes! :-)

Just start at season 1 episode 1 and don't move off your seat till you've done all the way through to season 5 episode 8!  Then wait till august for them to finish the story off :-)

Bring out your Lego and Star Wars figures and start playing with them and making things in front of the TV. Most kids know this is the only possible way to make television entertaining otherwise it would be just some kind of torture.

Homeland, The Americans, Game of Thrones

AND Vikings! Have actually (in my opinion) been better than Game of Thrones.

Looking forward to The Almighty Johnsons returning :)

We've just finished the Spartacus lot and now Arrow too. Had to laugh when Crixus turned up in Arrow. (Not giving anything away there really).

Arrow is as bad as it seems initially most of the time, but it has a good underlying backstory or two that make it worth hanging in there.  It's got fairly good production values, but it's a popcorn comic mostly.  Watch for the Colour Grading differences between the city and the island sections.  Follows the typical green shadows and orange faces treatment that's popular in Hollywood at the moment.

Other's I like and am waiting for are TV1's one about 'the machine' that spies on people. Bad dude from Lost, name escapes me.

Also Almightly Johnsons must be kicking off again soon, though that was going to be cancelled so I don't think they know what to do with that story. I kept hoping it would go full god like, but they seem happy to muck around with day to day stuff whilst they hunt.

Big thing I'm hanging out for is the next Strike Back. I love that series, being a good mix of ridiculous mixed with reality. There's no batman type cartoon punches in that show.  I like the camaraderie, but be warned, you can't go back to watching a light weight like NCIS LA etc after this show.  Most American primetime shows seem like childrens versions after getting into Strike Back.

Another out there one is Misfits. British, quite different in some respects, but often with clever stories.

I reckon a good TV series needs like 80% story and at least 20% developing backstory. You know like say Mulder and his sister and the smoking man, as well as the random day to day stuff of each episode.

He's Green Arrow from the DC Universe.  Oliver Queen is a character that's been around for ages and his origin story in comic book land is the same as in the TV show.

He also turned up as a regular character in the latter seasons of Smallville.

In terms of a comic to TV adaptation it's done pretty well so far.  But you can't expect a plot borne of comic books to entirely make sense.

It's also likely a lot of the characters that show up in the TV show are characters from the comic's that he would have met/battled from time to time.  I'm pretty sure Deadshot showed up so far, he's a staple across Batman and Green Arrow.

As far as comic book adaptions go, it's better than most. It gets a bit high-school romance at times (in much the same way that Smallville did) but if you look past that, the often massive doses of cheese and sometimes questionable acting, then it's a pretty fun show.

And the dude playing Arrow\Oliver Queen is _cut_.

Plus - John Barrowman!

Arrow did start off a little week, Dinah (the lawyer) is really annoying throughout the entire show, but it gets really really good. Tommy (his friend) is also pretty annoying.

its similar to smallville in the fact it can be pretty melodramatic, but IMO its a lot better than that (80% of most smallville episodes were just annoying to watch, but it was superman so i watched it anyway :)).

Misfits was awesome - have all 4 seasons on Bluray (thanks to Amazon UK).  Another one you might like is The Fades.  Sadly, they have confirmed there will not be a season 2 of that despite the MASSIVE cliffhanger.

Man that sht just guts me, like at least make just one more to wrap it up!

It's almost as bad as the shows that go all in with their good ideas in the first season and then are surprised when they actually get a 2nd season and now have no idea where the heck it's going to go from there!

Just record it and then you can fast forward that needless recap stuff at the start of each episode.

Band of Brothers!

I am thinking about getting in to Breaking Bad. The Americans was damn good though. Some good suggestions here too. I think I'll need to make a list.
