For me,its that time of year for supporting people than need it.

Which charity do you or your company support?

Why do you support them?

Do you see results or progress with your supports? ( a letter in the mail with a photograph is not results )

Are there any community( housing, rehab, etc ) based projects in NZ?

Sending money to Africa or Farmers in Nigeria is out of the question, for obvious reasons.

Everyone deserves a second chance or even a chance!

SPCA is always the best, we currently support them and we got our cat from them.

Movember, Dry July, Cure Kids etc. I like to splash my dollars around to support those that make a personal sacrifice in the interests of raising money for charities that help people from all walks of life in our communities.

I tend to stop and talk to people doing the hard yards outside The Warehouse or a super market and give if I can or feel it's a good cause. I'm actually applying to be a St. John volunteer this year. Hope I get the opportunity.

Scottpalmer - johnr : +1, are you guys comfortable knowing that your money reaches those that need it? Thanks will look into Dry July and Cure kids.

sday : +2 , Goodluck with the St. Johns position, let us know how it goes. What other opportunities are out there, to do the physical work like St. Johns?

I give to Te Omanga Hospice and helped raise money for them for 10 years. It was amazing to differences in various groups of people. White collar workers would constantly bemoan us and even make complaints to try and shut us down. People who looked needy themselves would generally always give generously though, especially gang members which was always surprising.

I also give to Life Flight Trust. My wife constantly gives to collectors outside supermarkets, for all sorts of different things.

SPCA, guide dogs, and Wellington free ambulance ( to help keep it free) are the ones I support. I refuse to give to any that cold call or pay street surfers.

Not so much a charity (I think) but I donate to Wellington Free Ambulance ever since they rushed to help me when I had a seizure a couple of years ago. I'll also be donating to Hospice from now on given the care they recently gave to my dad.

SPCA (like almost everyone else it seems!) We donate there and we got our dog from them (which everybody who wants a dog should do)

I also do some work for low decile primary schools in NZ

After losing a mate to melanoma, we consolidated all the donations our company did to a myriad of charities and now give one decent cheque each year to Malaghan Institute who do cancer and other disease research.

SPCA as I generally like animals more than I do humans, also Dressage NewZealand, Various pony clubs and Auckland Manukau Dressage Group.

If anyone is looking for a charity, I'm doing the 'Ride to Conquer Cancer" in November.

It involves me and hopefully another 1,000 riders raising a minimum of $2,500 and biking 200kms.
All donations go straight to the Cancer Society for research into cancer.
