As IT guy I'm usually running adblock but most of the normal users are not.

So how many ads do you reckon are the right amount in order of not being annoying?

My websites are always with only one skyscraper block on the right top side and works awesome.

What is your experience?

It's not the number of ads, it's the type. I'm fine with a reasonable level of advertising, as I realise that sites (including this one) need to pay the bills.

In essence, I'm OK with meaningful ads (not the old "shoot the monkey" flash ones etc) that aren't too large, aren't garish and animated when I'm trying to read text beside them, and don't start suddenly playing loud video/audio clips at me.

I run adblock plus, with a whitelist for some of the sites I like (GZ, Slashdot etc). On top of that I run:
- Ghostery (to deal with intrusive tracking)
- Flashblock (which deals to the very annoying embedded video ads), and
- NoScript (which deals with the really annoying javascript ones, like the one where tyre tracks suddenly went across the whole screen to advertise a car company on Stuff a few years ago).

So, I get some ads, but not the really annoying ones.

As long as the flash ad's don't have performance issues(plenty do sadly) I generally don't have an issue with them. Run Adblock Pro on my laptop because the bad flash ads cause the cpu fan to kick in etc

0 ads, ITs really sad to see them because it can depict the websites well being you could say. Like if i go to a website and see it covered in ads i generally steer away or think low of it. If there is a clean site i am more likely to look into it and see it of a higher class. To me its like seeing piles of trash on a street. Do i buy here or here.

Zero. I pay for websites and content I find useful and valuable (like GZ), but ones you can't pay for that have huge intrusive advertising like the NZ newspapers I just block the ads.

being originally from a country where the dolar is so expensive is really hard for me to go and paid websites to remove the ads. (without complain or criticize GZ)

i'm not going to argue about something that probably think completely different.

I work charging people for a service on site.

online services are most likely to be charged somehow monthly fee or ontime fee for a software licenses etc. the most common way is the ads on websites not a suscription.
is a personal choice.

my experience shows me that 1 small good well located ad block can generate 3 to 5 times more income rather than 5/7 blocks everywherere.

Most off the ad clicks are usually coming from visitors, good SEO and lots of views. current daily users are not going to click on the ads just because they see the ads everyday.

i think i ve clicked 3 ads in my all life so i don't know. up to you.

You know how ads work? You know that "click" is only one way ad revenue is generated? Ads can be CPM, CPC, CPA and more.

Blocking ads will impact revenue on any site, even if you think "oh, I don't click on ads anyway, so there's no harm done".

cpm count is by number of page view... and cpa is the most paid one but the lower posibilities of success. cpc is p/click

1 ad = 1 page refresh = 1 view
500 ads = 1 page refresh = 1 view

if you think is diferent read again adsense terms of agreement and your analytics.

If you have your own affiliate program and you sell the apps is diferent because you can charge for the cpm. (but there are third paid ads on this web and not cpa or cpm just cpc)

Your definitions of "view" is mistaken and you're confusing things.
