Similar to the recent thread about the NZ herald Android app

The NZ herald website want's excessive permissions when you try to login to comment using a 3rd party login. I see no reason for most of these, particularly the ability to "manage your contacts" in Google.

Here's what it wants (for accounts I have):

Twitter

  • Read Tweets from your timeline.
  • See who you follow.
Google

  • View your email address
  • View basic information about your account
  • Manage your contacts.
LinkedIn

  • Full profile. (including experience, education, skills, and recommendations)
  • Email address.

I'd be keen to see what they want from Facebook too.

I did mention that thread in the OP. That thread is both resolved, and locked.

They also always ask for your current location if you visit the site from your smartphone, something I never allow.

Ok, looked like the same issues to me but now I see the difference. Cheers.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I don't use twitter or linkedin (or facebook). I use google, but don't have an account with them, as I don't like the way they spy on everything you do on the interweb.

You create fake accounts in fictitious names with burner email addresses and use them to log in?
