Not sure if this belongs in OT but there is no general Apple forum - feel free to move it if it belongs elsewhere!

So Apple have paid an insane sum of money for a maker of the ultimate style over substance headphones. I personally can't see why, as Beats seem to me like over-priced tat. Sennheiser I could understand, but Beats? No.

Interested in everyone else's thoughts.

Possibly due to music agreements and apple have cash to spend to grow the business. If I was  beats, I wouldn't be questioning it. There are huge margins in headphones compared to other electronics.

I agree with all of the above. It's a disappointing deal considering the poor quality of Beats' products, but I suspect it's a case of killing off competition in the content business.

Makes me wonder if apple have run out of ideas. There maybe the iwatch or itv, but they appear to be in catchup on the iphone. There hasn't really been any new product since Steve left and the ipad.

Compared to their fiscal reserves Apple paid pocket money for it and will earn heaps.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

This year will see some very cool products out of Cupertino.

Maybe this thread should be about predictions. There will be the larger iphone and possibily an iwatch. Possibily a new larger screen ipad. Maybe a new type of apple tv

They've gone on the record saying the beats music was done right, and that they plan to continue it. I think the reason they didn't go the subscription route like spotify and beats music when they launched itunes radio is because they didn't want to cannibalise itunes sales. they wanted itunes radio to complement the store so you listen to the song on the radio and then buy it, but that hasn't had the effect they wanted so this is a way to get into the subscription stuff.

as for the headphones they made something like 1.3billion dollars in revenue last year, so you can see why the probably want some of that.

At present the only thing they can make for me is an iPhone that matches the Galaxy Note in form factor and so on.

These small screens are getting annoying as I get older...!

Well, since we do not even have iTunes Radio yet...!

I have to say that I more or less have Pandora One playing 80% of the time and streamed 'radio' from under the 'internet' tab on iTunes the remainder. The older I get, the less albums I can manage to listen to - I get bored too easily and if I try and use Genius it says 'no genius listings available for this track' more often than not.

Don't forget Carplay. If it catches on then a very large proportion of cars on the market in two or three years' time will have this feature.

In the US perhaps....

They have things like Sirius satellite radio in their car audio options. I can't even get reliable reception of Radio NZ on FM..!! ;-)

Anyone with a clue knows Beats are not worth $50 let alone $500

All Apple are doing is sticking with their business model. Fancy, over priced rubbish.
