Hey all,

Flatmate went out to her car the other morning and noticed a hand print on her drivers door which she thought was odd,
Anyhow checked the Security cam to see if anything got picked up, and this is what we found..

We are really the only ones with car's outside at night..
Would this be useful for the police, or not really?

i would pass it on, there may be a crew going round the area stealing cars, this could give them more of a lead into who it is

Definitely pass it on, you never know that there may have been a theft ex car or car conversion within a few houses of your address, and what you have may provide leads on who the offenders are.
Just because you do not recognise them, does not mean local Police who deal with these lowlifes on a daily basis won't.

That's really good footage, What sort of setup do you have? +one to above, although I'm not sure if the Crime Reporting Lines web-portal will be able to accept files of that size, may have to take it on disc to a station.

The camera's are HikVision DS-2CD2332-I (3MP Turret's, IP66/Water-resistant, Separate IR from Camera Lens.. Day/Night)

I use a Synology NAS DS1513+ for data storage/remote camera viewing etc. (2 bay unit's also do this task fine) but as I run a home-based business I need the additional space.

I have 60 days of footage stored from the camera's, set to record only motion- consequently any car that goes up or down the street.
- For a busy camera (i.e Road facing) it uses around 700GB for 2 months of recordings.. and the other camera's around the sides/back etc only use around 40/100GB space. I can see when I mowed the lawn last haha.

That guy had a good look at the camera and might have deterred them?
(Probably not the best question to ask) What brings you to need cameras. E.g Neighborhood, Gear in house, Kids.

The Garden's is a suburb which is part of Manurewa, we've had car's broken into on the street (mine in February) which is why I got the camera's in the first place..
After getting one and seeing how effective it was, especially once the Neighbours started asking for footage between time x and x it's really become a hobby and something I may pursue professionally.

Maybe you can setup some for me so i can make everything quite when noise control start walking down the driveway.

After watching the footage, I believe that it was the camera that stopped them from breaking into your car. The other dude saw the camera, told his mate to stop and he put his hoodie up.

A pity you can't see the number plate on the car. At 4 am that is dodgy behavior, and the police should know about it, but not much that will identify them.

12 months ago I bought some really high tech oil for my car. I have found that it stays in really good condition if I keep it in the bottle and do not put it in the car.

What is the point in going to the trouble of installing the camera if you do not intend to use it for other than voyeurism.

Having said that it appears that the location of the camera is good for an overall picture of what is going on, but too high for facial identification.

of course the police would want this. They may even recognise the perps who seem fairly well versed.
