What can I say..... I'm a sheep.
I'm trying the idea of a 'standing desk' at work, after being conscious more lately of the amount of time spent on my butt and seeing a few articles on the subject lately.
My setup:
I have a generous sized L shaped office desk. My computer was in the corner, but I now have my screens and keyboard at the short end on top of a cut down 60cm wide closet door that is sitting on a couple of $10 Warehouse bookshelves (product code 9400032948751 if anyone is interested). This is a temporary arrangement - a 'proof of concept' for me before spending any real money on making it look good. The budget might stretch to something cool like one of these http://varidesk.co.nz/.
The desk top at this end is now currently 104cm off the ground, and that is 1-2cm short of my elbow height. I stood at it all day yesterday with my feet and lower back protesting toward the end of the day but will stick with it.
What I would ideally like is a tall gas lift stool or on wheels, so I can change positions several times during the day - standing or sitting. There are plenty of bar stools around with a gas lift mechanism, but I can't locate any on wheels. A 'spin' height adjustment would be fine - it does not need to be gas lift. The seat needs to be around the 78cm height. 60-80cm seems to be a common height range in the gas lift bar stools.
If I can't locate anything (at a reasonable price - sub $150) I might just get a gas lift bar stool and work out the ideal spot on the floor, marking that spot in some way so I can move the chair out of the way and easily return it to the sweet spot.
Any other thoughts welcome.
Cheers
Mike
