So I woke up this morning and thought "Let's go on the Herald for my morning fix of "news", let's see what have we got as the front page article, it is Christmas should be something fun ....

... Oh how nice!  An article on where all the car crashes happen in NZ!"

Merry Christmas everyone!  Sheesh!!! :-)

Can't forget "WINZ Ram Raided, Torched".  But if you dig down far enough on the page, there's a couple of cheerful articles (like a depiction of a Christmas ceasefire 100 years ago during a World War, or a man risking his life to save someone).

It's sad there are no newspapers left anymore. They all died last century.

And they've just embedded someone else's interactive map into their page, poorly.

it just shows that with all the emphasis on speed kills, there are not many fatal crashes where speed is the sole contributing factor.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

That one's local to me.  I work in the Community Center two doors along Alfred Street, and often stop and chat to the security guards outside WINZ.  I 'tried' to chat to the armed police lady who was outside WINZ the day after the double murder earlier this year, but she appeared to be conversationally challenged.  In fact she appeared to be generally too challenged to be safe with the gun she was holding — bless her heart.

We've had three Armourguard security guards, two inside and one outside the door since the big incident, but never any when it was closed.  Goodness knows what that is costing us across the country, and O am not sure they could have stopped this mornings ram raider if they'd been there.  I expect they could have stopped him spreading and setting light to the petrol he bought with him.

The most surprising thing about the incident is that the sprinkler system actually worked, and apparently prevented major damage.  He still managed to wish WINZ a merry Christmas in his own particular way I'd say.

Good news doesn't get ratings.

Ratings = advertising = money.

It's not about giving us factual unbiased news or what the people want, it's about what's going to make Fairfax, APN, et al money.

I remember when I were a kid the news used to do all the doom n gloom in the beginning, then the sport (usually more doom n gloom for England...) and then have a fun article to sign off with, wish they did that format again, make things seem a bit better in the world!

It's worse than that: they all died the last millennium!
