The funniest thing about his presence at the show was when he mentioned still using a Blackberry and ONE person clapped ONCE.

It would be a good marketing point for blackberry to use, to try and sell their retro phones. The thing is though he wouldn't be using it if it was his choice.

There are a lot of restrictions on phones for government officials in America - like Obama mentioned - no voice recording capabilities, no data ports, secured access, encryption, no camera, accountability ( recording all texts, emails), etc. Because of all these restrictions and because of the small market very few companies make these phones - Blackberry being the most prominent. Also governments tend to buy a a lot at one time to save money and minimise spending time researching and procuring new phones so when one breaks they just get another one out of the warehouse. Given the rate of phone development in the last 20 years this leads to government officials having what we consider very outdated phones. Also remember that Blackberry was a major phone manufacturer even 3-5 years ago who specialised in phones like these so it's no surprise to see Obama with a Blackberry.

Security on Blackberry is better than anyone's...though the NSA and GCSB and GCHQ still get to read / hear everything you do. Or they would be banned.
