This is bugging me.

Why is it necessary to have a stupid logo interfere with my viewing?

Also annoying are ads for other programs sliding onto the one I am watching - no need for that either.

Who thinks up these things and why do they think it either good or necessary?

Those came around pre-Freeview but are completely irrelevant now since your TV has an "info" button that tells you which channel you're on. Post-ASO I can't think of any reason for keeping them around!

It's free.  They aren't thinking about your viewing pleasure.  This is evident as programs such as "The Bachelor" and "C.S.I Miami" exist.  When placing ads and sliding banners, producers are thinking about how many people will see their advert in the middle of your viewing experience.  And the slippery slidy ads you get on paid TV like Sky is the reason I don't pay for Sky.

I highly recommend uplifting your TV and taking it to an appropriate recycling facility.  I've been immeasurably happier ever since I ditched mine.  Seriously, give it two weeks without switching it on and tell me I was wrong.

Makes it easier to identify ads for skipping, as they don't show the logo during ad breaks.

And you realize of course as TVNZ does by running the end credits over  the last minute of the program allows at least 2 more minutes of ad time per hour..

There's new technology out now, that can put water marks on the picture that you can't see. They could use that to prevent theft.

They just do it because they seem entent on annoying their customers as much as possible, and if you try and get the content else where they then try to take legal action as they think it's their legal right to be the only supplier, even though they're not supplying in format that customer is interested in.

They use invisible watermarks at the movies, if something appears on the net, they know which theatre and time of screening the person recorded it from.

The content is free, they can do whatever they like, and can assume no other reason (now) than to promote their brand/image.  It's kind-of like complaining that the 'golden arches' are always outside McDonalds, or Holden always puts a badge with their name on every car.   Marketing, plain and simple.

More and more people are skipping the ad breaks now, so I guess they have to force advertising on us. The future of free to air TV is looking pretty shaky.

How about american ads that pop up at the bottom MID SHOW and take up a third of the screen to advertise another show...

mostly I don't even notice them, the only one in recent times was the defunct Freeview Sports channel Sommet, that had a god awful watermark that was way too intense.

Have you been able to automate this? I use VideoRedo but it is faster and more accurate if I do it manually. I would love to be able to capture part of the screen (like the logo) and tell my recorder to only record when this is present.

If you're watching Free-to-air and aren't part of the TV ratings programme, your vote won't matter one little bit...
If you are paying for Sky, then it will, as they know what you're watching. Of course, if you have Sky and you're not watching it, you're throwing money down the toilet.

But to whom? People watch something particular because it is something they are interested in, not because it is on a particular channel. No one cares what channel it is on.

The answer once again is Netflix :)

No ads, no logos, watch what you want when you want :)
