Is skype cheaper than say the Telstra $19 prepaid value cap, 100mins (along with other stuff)?

Got skype on the windows phone.

So what does telstra have to do with it?

Cheapest IME is 2talks offering. Skype seems to have problems presenting caller ID to people, and also has much worse voice quality when I have tried it.

simply i realised topping up 100 mins for $19 is like 20c a min, skype is like 1.7c casual across my wifi.

is skype quality really that bad?

Well give it a go and see if you can deal with it. They send calls from made up numbers so you will usually get rejected as people will think its a microsoft scammer or similar. Would possibly be OK calling to businesses which dont really screen calls.

thats exactly who im calling.

but then the telecom plan you can call mobiles with your minutes which are 20c on voip products too.

Telstra has never operated in the NZ market so I am very confused, Telsteaclear has but they no longer do

This also gives you a 'landline' number rather than the 028 xxx xxxxx
Mobile looks like around 20c per minute on top of that though.....

Mobile look like around 7.4c per minute on skype - if I understood their confusing page...

Personally have used 2talk on quite bad wifi overseas a few times and made calls back to NZ - the other send said it sounded just like a regular phone call. Minimal delay as well.

my son uses Skype for his mobile and yes it only comes up as private on my caller id which is Snap voip, but the call is crystal clear and better than some mobiles that call , Hamilton to Rotorua and it is so much cheaper than pre pay as he is a broke uni student.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

if you get the other person to get skype (or virtually any other similar service e.g. viber, ) then those calls will be free.

Most people have a skype account, so just do skype to skype.

That would be the most cost effective thing to do I expect.
