As best I can tell, if you have a Prezzy Card with value on it, the only way to realise that value into a bank account (or cash) is to buy something with it that you would have used the bank account (or cash) for otherwise. Does anyone know of a way to purchase something that can be converted to bank balance or cash?

I tried the PayPal route, but not having my name on the card blocks that. Any refund scenario will put the money back on the card. The only thing I can think of is to sell it to someone else for face value (or a discount, I suppose) which would be a pain.

The issue at hand is I want to give the money to someone else but don't want to (and indeed they probably don't want me to) give them a Prezzy Card in part payment.

I can't complain, I suppose, considering I was gifted the card in the first place. But it would be nice to be able to solve this.

Casinos can sometimes let you make cash advances on your CC without having to pay fees (they process it as a sale of chips). Could that if you are in the right place.

Don't have to play the tables with the chips unless you want to

Didn't think of that one! Of course a gambling institution is free with money. :-)

Unfortunately in a casino free zone in Welly.

I used one to pay for the rego for my car, there's usually some way to use it for things you "need" rather than things you "want", so you can redirect the money elsewhere. So if you were going to pay for something anyway, you may be able to use the card and give the person the money you'd otherwise use.

Now as to these Westfield vouchers I've got, that's another more inconvenient deal given that I'd rather avoid the place...

I don't know what sort of balance you are talking about, but can't you just use the prezzy card for most of your day to day transactions? It would soon all be gone and you can use the money you saved from your regular account to pay your friend.

Yeah, you're all right. Logically, just spending it on 'necessities' and pulling the cash out of the necessities account is the way to do it. The fun part is remembering to do just that. Already this week I bought a monthly train pass and, yes, my car rego! Did I remember? No. undecided

Which is why I was hoping for a way of just dumping the money in the relevant account in one (or a few) steps.

There is, however, the aspect of spending ALL of the balance. If you leave a couple of dollars on there it can be hard to realise those.

Supermarkets allow you to say "Put $x" on this card and "$y" on that card.  I've used it a lot to finish off gift cards.

I believe most retailers that take credit cards should have no problem doing this.
