So I was bought up in the AC/DC era starting with Bon Scott (the best) through to Brian Johnson. With him either leaving or not being a part of the next tour they are looking at Axl Rose as lead singer.

Just no no no on every level possible. If this is the case just let the band die and let it be know as one of the great bands ever.

I like AC/DC and G N' R but Axle doing AC/DC does seem not right but I will comment further once I hear him

I don't mind Axl Rose, even went to see his "new" GNR lineup in concert years ago.

The thing that stuck me is that he started off strong but couldn't maintain the voice for the whole concert.

Probably should be looking at someone younger

Well that would be a disaster. Maybe the report is wrong and they are looking at him as a possible support act for part of the new tour.

I too was Bon Scott/Brian Johnson. It took me ages to get used to Brian - and I still think Bon was the best.

I have not really kept up with who is who so can't say quite who I would choose.

Certainly, vocalists seem largely to decline as they age. Early David Coverdale in Whitesnake was truly a talented singer - later, not so much. Likewise Ian Gillan in Deep Purple, who I saw at the Hammersmith Odeon many moons ago. Awesome..later, not so much.

Maybe Rick Halford from Judas Priest could do AC/DC but I have not heard him sing in yonks so do not know if he could still hack it.

Bon Scott was great, my fav Acca Dacca singer. I agree with the OP if Brian isn't singing, call it a day. Start a new band if one must continue to perform.

Axl wouldn't be a good mix with AC/DC his voice is wrong and I would think he would be too unreliable.

Call it a day and don't ruin what we love!

BTW AC/DC I love, GNR I love but they are too different in sound.

The sound simply isn't as good without Phil Rudd and Malcolm Young.

With Johnson going it might be time to pull the pin.

Axl rose is awful live.

That lasted a year or so.

I haven't kept up with the ACDC bit, but hasn't the band been piecemeal for some time?
I thought some people left, or couldn't continue (dementia in one case?) and that one of their sons had stepped into the role and actually did pretty well.

I guess it becomes the band you knew, or the band the business that keeps being milked.

Saw them in Wellington on the Black Ice tour in 2010 which rocked. Then again in Brisbane in November last year (Rock or Bust tour) and it definitely wasn't as good. Malcom Young had left due to dementia or something like that. Replaced by his and Angus' nephew Stevie Young. Phil Rudd was busted for meth in Tauranga and is generally a nutjob which is a pity as he's the original and best drummer. He's been replaced by Chris Slade. At least Chris played on the Razors Edge album so he's a valid choice. I think if Brian Johnson can't continue, they should just call it a day.

Yeah you do hit that point where the band really is the voice to some degree.

It's a bit like the Stones or Dave Grohl etc

They're just one guy out of several in a band, but they're also the band in many respects.
