Just curious really, but I am wondering why so many people have a 'disclaimer' in their Geekzone signature along the lines of "what I say here is my own opinion"

I can understand those who are here as representatives from a company, but can't see why individuals need the disclaimer...

Can someone enlighten me?

Many are individuals but probably can easily be linked to a company or another.

Maybe because if someone gives someone advice that goes wrong? For example, someone may recommend a product and someone buys it, but it ends up being a lemon. Then the buyer can't come back and say , hey you recommended this to me and it is a lemon. However anyone should do their own research anyway, and not rely on peoples opinions on forums.

Death by social media is extremely strong my industry hence the disclaimer. I don't hesitate to comment on things outside my work but don't comment on things inside my industry. Pretty much all my colleagues are the same and try to avoid public media.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

This. I work in the IT industry and need to ensure separation between what I say as a private individual and what I say as an employee.
