Have just noticed techXpo 2017. Sounds sufficiently cool that I might shell out for flights to Auckland for the day.

Is anyone else going / been before (not sure if there has been one previously...)? Just trying to decide whether it is worth the investment in cost of a flight and the brownie points required to get Mrs MDF to sign off on a blatant geekout trip.

I believe this is the first.

I am expecting there to be more of a gaming/entertainment focus than the old Computerworld Expo's had in the '90s. An invite has gone out from PB Tech to their Business mailing list, so hopefully there will be at least some enterprise technology on show, which generally interests me more.

I've nabbed a couple of tickets for my wife and I, we live close enough to hop on a bus and see what it's like. Hopefully it's decent.

I'll likely be going along. Nabbed tickets for the Saturday.

I'm kind of torn. I don't want to grab a ticket and then not end up going (so someone else misses out), but equally will be gutted if they all go immediately.

I get the impression that limiting tickets is more of a gimmick than an actual limit, particularly over the weekend. The Vodafone Events Centre isn't huge, so there may be practical limits to the number attending, but I'm sure a number of no-shows have been factored in to the calculation. Invitations for Friday evening have only gone out this morning, so that's likely a bunch of weekend tickets that have already been claimed, now won't be used.

The old "Supplies are limited, act fast!" routine.

Booked tickets for my sons and me. The 8 year old is super excited and our trip to Auckland gives the wife a break from the males of the household.

So when I go, if I see someone that looks like Taylor Swift, am to assume that is @michaelmurphy or will he just be decked out in Taylor swag?

I'll be going on the Saturday just for the hell of it.  Only annoying thing was having to use different email addresses to get multiple tickets - one for me, one for the gf.

Thanks @lcl, but I've thought about this some more and will probably give it a miss. Looked in to flights and it's around $300 return. Decided I'd rather spend that on actual toys, rather than an airfare to go and drool over toys.

I expect to see you purchase some UniFi's and a USG before I get back.

Sadly no. Just look for Taylor Swift and I'll be the guy she is with.

I was expecting you to get a pile of freebies for presenting the Saturday 12.30 session and/or spending the day in an ERL costume! 😁

Hey guys,

I'm helping organise the techXpo and will be there all three days, so say hi if you see me around. Been a slightly crazy couple of weeks, but booooy is it looking good. Probably looking forward to the Sennheiser lounge the most, although my wallet is not.

Thought it'd be neat to extend the VIP invitation for the Friday to GZ members: https://www.techxpo.co.nz/vip-register/

Have at while tickets last, it's getting pretty full.
