Work benefits gives me trade/discount pricing at Noel Leeming.

All discounts are 'item specific' and they will not give me any quotes over the phone.

I am moving house and looking to get a new TV, Laptop, Washing Machine and dryer.

Anyone any advice/previous experience how to get some prices. I’m looking at 3 or 4 models of each item (will buy 1 of each type of item based on best value/discounted price). Well aware that sales staff on commission will hate me and probably try to give it the old out of stock excuse.

Best thing to do is just ask them for a price, they all carry mobile phones that can look up their internal website and give prices.

I've found discounts do vary, I have PSA union membership and find there is next to no discount, however I also have a CSC Buying Group card which gets me I think Cost + 7.5% + GST.

Sometimes the Supergold Card works pretty well, my parents got Office 365 personal for around $48 if I remember correctly.

What sort of discount do you get?

If it is 'Cost' plus a percentage, you will be better off doing the Weekend Sale thing and shopping around. The advertised prices in their sales (not just Noels) will generally be equal or lower than their 'Cost' price to which they add a percentage.

note - 'Cost', and why I have put it in quote marks, is their average cost price from the distributor, not including any volume related discounts or rebates - which can be quite significant for a number of products.

If you are looking for an Apple Laptop - wait until one of the retailers does a 10% off Apple promo - that is as cheap as they will ever be.

Whiteware - shop around - this is where your work discounts may be the most valuable. Check Appliance Shed too (also, check JB HiFi Wairau Park, they are selling out of Whiteware and may have some genuinely good run-out specials especially if you don't want it in a box).

TVs - best to work out what you want - Brand, Size, Features and shop around. Stores have sales every weekend and will all want to beat each other. If you wanted a TV that doesn't often come up on promo, your Noels discount may be good here.

If your work has a relationship with them then you should have an account manager at NLG that can sort it all out for you, just send them your requirements. Then you don't have to deal with floor staff.

Depending on your work you may find that Harvey Norman will also give you a discount even though there is no formal arrangement. I've found whiteware generally gets a good discount, whereas phones and TV's don't.

Noel leeming have a cost + 5% thing going on now.

I was curious about the price of a camera I'd been considering so went in and asked them.

Under cost+5% the price dropped from $1699 to around $1399. It didn't sound like much of a saving at all because some stores already sell the officially sourced model for around $1250.

Oh well, was worth a crack.
