So this appeared in the Herald today

"A man injured outside Parliament on Thursday last week has been named as Rotorua man Zdenek (Sid) Hanzlik.

The 60-year-old Czech-born man died in hospital after an incident on Parliament grounds.

Police released Hanzlik's name today."

Last week the "incident" was widely reported, with specific detail as to what happened (I'm not mentioning it in case we are not supposed to..) so anyone who saw, read or heard the news probably knows what happened. However, now the man has died, that stuff that was widely reported last week now can't be mentioned.

Am I alone in thinking that is simply nonsensical?

If the coroner is investigating the death, there are some restrictions on what the media can report. They cannot make public:

The method or suspected method of the death

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

So they can say he's set himself on fire but can't say that he died of third degree burns on most of his body (that's my guess)?

If somebody shoots himself they can say he's shot himself but not that he's died of a shot wound through his head?

That seems a bit silly and pointless.

So we know a man was on fire outside of Parliament.

We know that been admitted to hospital from serious burns sustained outside Parliament later that evening.

An Article on the weekend that said the dude who torched himself died in hospital.

Now an article saying some dude has died outside parliament and the coroner is investigating so the media is limited to what they can report. But not of what they have reported.

Why did they comment without knowing from the coroner first?

I can go on for days slamming nz media, But like we are all on the same page.
