I was looking at the movie Player one.
It is made in 3D, I was under impression 3D was no more, yet here is the latest one in 3D.

Looking at threatres in Christchurch, Readings at Plams has it in 3D, but not Hoyts.

Guess it's just Hoyts that have given up?

Oh well, I'll go to Readings to watch it, must be others that prefer 3D

Edit Confusing if I just google Hoyts player one both movie times show as standard, yet in the Hoyts Applic one is extreme screen and other is showing as 3D. Also price at Readings and Hoyts is both $11 so no extra charge for 3D.

I just remember reading about it in other threads such as here

Player One is the first 3D movie I've seen advertised for some time. In thread referenced yep last post shows demand high Asia, China and static in America.

I'll be sad when my 3D TV dies as can't get them anymore to my knowledge. Passive glasses so I'm sweet there, no batteries required.

I love 3D at home (use LG with passive glasses), my main concern is that I think every manufacturer has dropped 3D.

I can only hope it makes a return before my current TV dies

Hadn't noticed any drop in 3D movies - especially big sci fi action flicks like Ready Player One which I saw the other day.

I don't mind 3D but won't pay the $3 premium so usually stick with standard 2D.

What annoys me about my local Hoyts (which I prefer over Event) is when a new release comes out they have multiple sessions but most are either 3D ($3 extra) or Xtreme Screen (again $3 extra). I just want a standard session which can be hard to come by.

My local theatre's website barely mentions 3D anymore (the only reference I can find is for $2 glasses rental on the pricing page) and no longer lists whether particular screenings are in 3D. It makes me wonder whether they've just let it die.

I do have 3D at home (with active glasses) but it's actually fairly rare that I use it. Some Blu-rays seem to have poor mastering (the first Hobbit, I'm looking at you!) which doesn't help with enjoyment.

Personally I never enjoyed the 3D thing. I usually ended up with a headache and the films have too many "quick - lets do a scene where something can come out of the screen towards the audience so they notice it is 3D" moments which added nothing to the film itself.

I think they've pretty much given up in NZ yes, which is sad.

I saw Ready Player One in 3D the other day, in 3D at Reading Palms in Christchurch. But at least at the various Hoyts here, and the Reading, no one is showing these in 3D:

Avengers: Infinity Wars
Pacific Rim Uprising
Tomb Raider
Black Panther

And no mention of Sherlock Gnomes or other upcoming movies being in 3D.

I stopped going to films that weren't filmed in 3D a long time ago. I think audiences are getting savvy enough to realise the difference between post-conversion and native filming. I'll always go see a film that was intended for 3D from the outset. However, I do still check against this site before a movie that I'm interested in, just to see if it's worth a look in 3D or not:

gehenna: Yeah it seems like they don't film in 3D anymore. From what I can see, there was only a few movies in 2016 filmed in actual 3D, and nothing since (with the exception of a couple of Chinese movies and an Indian movie).

I wonder if the Avatar sequels might be the last major movies filmed in 3D.

There was only a 8.30pm 3D show the rest were 2D. I'm sure the theaters don't have a survey asking how many 3D showings should we have..

3D screenings generate higher revenue for cinemas than 2D. If the demand was there, you would think they would schedule accordingly.
