As I'm sure you all have experienced, CourierPost has a long running joke of losing packages, leaving their calling card when people are home and other gags.

I have had my fair share ranging from the classic calling card to a three piece shipment being separated where 2 of the three packages make it where they're meant to go, except for the third that turned up in Dunedin instead of Auckland 2 weeks later. But this week, they're pulling out all the stops.

Decent order from Amazon. Cost a fair bit but you need to spoil yourself once in a while right? After the package sat at the international depot in America for well over a week before it was "Found" and delivered by the third party handling that length of the journey, it finally made it to New Zealand. Yay! Customs should have been quick since tax was pre-payed. took 5 days. But oh well, government agencies am I right? Released to CourierPost to handle the last leg of the journey. Just a few km's from one side of Auckland to the other and to my front door. I usually ship to my local Countdown but I did not know which shipping company would handle the last leg so couldn't guarantee it would be CourierPost who seem to be the only company that can ship to NZPost pickup locations. So day of delivery comes around. I'm out for most of the day but there is someone home all day, I made sure of that. No calling card for me! Part way through the day, signature requirement disappears, odd but hey, someone will be home anyway so my new Planar Magnetic headphones shouldn't stay outside for too long.

5pm, I'm home. Half expecting a package to be at the door or maybe hidden behind the bin, it's like a little easter hunt. Except it's no where to be seen. Check shipping, It's still with the driver. Must be a very busy day! As time ticks by, it's nearly time for all deliveries to stop, I call up CourierPost. Apparently they don't know where it is. But the driver might still have it and still be making the rounds. Following morning, still with driver, no change, didn't go back to the depot. They really need to give this guy a bonus, working all night long on deliveries! And to this day he's still going. No delivery, but the driver still has it and it's still being delivered. It's quite amazing the length these drivers go to get you your package.

ironically, its not just CourierPost.  We use Fastway/Courier Post/Post Haste and NZ Couriers and have similar experiences with the m all from time to time.

My most recent bit of fun with them.... turned out it was a tracking system fudge up. My package hadn't even left its first depot.

What the actual **** (Courierpost) - track delivery, and you claim noone was around to sign for it - card was left - AT 10.40PM. 1) We were home then. 2) No card left. 3) Who the hell expects their package at 10.40pm ? Now Ive got to wait another 24hrs to see my item ?

We ordered wine - a couple of cases, which qualified for free shipping under the the wineries standard Ts&Cs.  The winery rang us to say that PBT wanted to charge $5 to deliver to our location because we are 'rural'.  We aren't rural, we are <7k  from the Nelson CBD, in the urban postal code and not in an RD area.

I suggested to the winery that was matter to be resolved between them an PBT.  Got the wine and didn't pay extra.

You guys should move to a small town, generally speaking we don't seems to have much trouble (and yes I know I'm going to regret saying that).

Though if you do all move to a small town it won't be small anymore...please forget my initial comment.

And having said that, did get a small parcel delivered long time ago, watched the courier walking towards me with said parcel flipping it up in the air as he approached and catching it, except of course he didn't, splat onto concrete. Luckily it was only a hard drive. Luckily, its still working today. Only saw him the once for some reason.

How timely a topic. Just the other week had an experience with NZCouriers. I had ordered from Techwarehouse Wellington a complete set of genuine new toner cartridges for my Brother colour laser printer. As you can appreciate these were not cheap though much cheaper than Warehouse Stationary. On my delivery instructions I stated "leave at front door if not at home". Within an hour I had a phone call from the company in Wellington saying that due to the value of the parcel they do not leave at front doors but at the nearest NZ postal parcel centre. This was fine with me and I thanked them for the prompt notification. They followed this up with a confirmation email.

"You have requested leave at Front Door If not home.  We are unable to send your order without a signature due to the value of the goods being sent.  If anything was to happen to the order eg Courier misplaces it or it gets damaged we are unable to offer an replacement without the signature as Non signature items are only covered up to around $100.00 value."

So far so good

Next day early evening door bell rings, ah ha my goods have arrived. At the door was my next door neighbour with my parcel. Now his English is not the best but the jist of the conversation was he had just arrived home and found this parcel on his front door step. I thanked him. I then sent an email to the Wellington company.

Following our conversation yesterday re not leaving parcels at front door due to security of parcel considerations. My next door neighbour has just delivery my goods which he found on his front door step. I believe he was not at home at the time of delivery (his English is poor so I may have misunderstood him at this point in our conversation). If he was at home then he would of had to sign for it would he not??

His address is 24B ******** street and mine is 22B ******** street. The label is correctly addressed as per attached photo.

A conversation should be had with New Zealand Couriers.

Following business day received reply from Techwarehouse;

Thank you for making me aware of this,  I will send in an complaint with the driver who did delivery as this is subpar service from NZCouriers.

I’ve also flagged your account to only use Courier post now so all future orders will be delivered via Courierpost.

I’m sorry that your delivery was botched by the couriers. I will keep an eye on the complaint I’m about to lodge so hopefully they can come up with some reason why they are delivering packages to the wrong addresses and not gaining signature on a Paid signature ticket.

Again thanks for making us aware of this, NZC has lost our custom in the ******* area till they can sort out these issues.

Excellent service from Techwarehouse poor service from NZCouriers.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

We recently had a new development put in across the street from us, that shares a very similar address. Our address is 3/6 Our Street, there is a place across the street that is 6/3 Our Street. You can see where this is going I'm sure. I keep getting their mail and packages. I have mentioned it to our postal person directly, as well as all of the couriers that keep giving us their packages. Most of them have seen me for years (we've lived here for 7 or 8 years). I always end up walking their mail over them when it's left on our doorstep, but it makes me wonder much of our mail has ended up over at their place. I've rung their doorbell every time I've taken a package over to them, but they never answer. I assume they are home, because there is always different shoes out front next to the door, but they never answer so I can't ask them.

CourierPost have a key to a secure area at my place, but they still leave most things beside the back door. Sometimes they put packages that require a signature in that place, sometimes not.

I think that means it is no longer secure!

NZ post are utterly pathetic. My latest package from the US took longer to get from Auckland to Wellington _after_ it cleared customs, than it did to get from Seattle -> California -> Auckland and clear customs at Auckland. When I rang them to ask where the hell my parcel was I was told their target delivery time for it was 6-8 working days.

Around here they are actually excellent. I've never yet had a bad experience with CourierPost. PBT are also excellent. Fastways are awful though. I think a lot of this is who the local couriers are. Some are good, some not so much.
