Just a curious post.  I know it's not accurate but if cost isn't an issue and you can be a citizen at either countries would you choose NZ or AU?

I know those who have studied and or worked in NZ, sold up and now migrated to AU with their families, those who have studied in NZ as a student and then went back home (overseas) and now migrated to AU.  I have a cousin who has worked in London, and Sydney, he's back in NZ for 2 or so years but he says he wants to move back to AU.  Kiwi's might love the warmer beaches in AU.  On the face of it, AU gets so much more migrants than NZ right and then there is the UK, Canada and the USA too.

The NZ Herald had a article the other day and it mentioned with international students, many of them were more interested in getting residency by doing a short course than head to university and then seek residency.  Then I guess the majority of the students might not prefer to study in NZ.

I would say that incomes are higher in Aus and costs similar or lower so financially, better off in AU.

Aussie.  Melbourne in summer and Noosaville in winter.

You did say cost not an issue ...

Yes, not related to costs.  In the ideal situation, all the factors the same between different countries would they rather live in NZ or Australia.  Clearly AU gets way more migrants when AU have more taxes like capital gain taxes and asset tested superannuation.

If money was no object, then AU.  Somewhere warm where the summer actually delivers sunshine and heat for more than 1 week a year.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Nope. I like mountain biking, snowsports and playing golf. Cheaper and easier to do here. Plus fewer bugs and lower temperatures. Unfortunately the natural progression of my job should lead me to Oz.

Taking cost out basically makes it a lifestyle decision,  and NZ wins out there, its downside is having a maritime climate means often crappy weather,  Continental weather is generally much more settled (although southern ocean storms and cyclones pound the Aussie coasts as well)

Er...not necessarily. Some things are cheaper, some things are huge,. Car regos for instance.

I'd say NZ. Nicer place really. Even if food is more expensive and wages lower, so are a lot of other thngs.

Without cost being an issue ... NZ.  Granted, I have a very large bias (I am a New Zealander - born and bred).

I've lived in Australia twice, for 2.5 years from 2003, and again in 2009-2011.  NZ is my choice.  Australia is backwards, behind the times technically and socially.  I haven't carried cash in NZ for years.  In Australia you end up coming up at the end of every day with 5 kilos of 50c and 20c coins from all the shops and cafes that won't accept eftpos for less than sometimes a $30 purchase....making my umteen coffees a day an exercise in, well, exercise when lugging around all those coins!

My internet was reasonably priced at the time, but stuck in ADSL+ world.  I don't think it's much better now what with the whole NBN mess.  Mobile accounts were the only thing at the time that was a better deal than in NZ, but we've even surpassed them with those now.

It's really not that great over there.  I've kept this reply about "Services".  Don't get me started on the people....
