$30 a PC seems expensive... that's the cost of a trailerload of rubbish sent to the landfill!

Let's see, if they pay refuse workers close to minimum wage to process the old PCs, that's a couple of hours work plus overheads in the price. I could strip an old PC in 5 minutes, probably quicker with an airpowered screwdriver. Where would the rest of the money go?

And what if you build your own PCs (as many of us woudl do here)

Answers on the back of a $30 note...

No idea how this would work. Sure if all PCs were shipped to NZ pre-assembled.....

Its going to get ugly. What is defined as a computer? What about a PDA? Cellphone? Whats the difference between a TV and a LCD monitor? Are LCD monitors going to go up in price too? Are we going to charge GST on top of this charge?

Maybe they should just waive the fee for NZ assemblers, and apply it only to those importing assembled units.
