Hi,

The last couple of weeks my wife has been getting big bites overnight. So far I haven’t... doing my best to fix the issue, I finally found some bugs or skins there is, at the edge of the carpet. Can someone confirm what kind it is? Thank you

It looks like a slater - and probably is a slater. (aka woodlouse).

I don't think these are what's biting your wife.

This is a bed bug - they will bite your wife:

OK - I've looked harder at your photo - and conclude that it's a terrible photo, but I still think it's a slater.

Try again on a neutral background - bed bugs have 6 legs at the front as above - slaters have many legs down both sides.

A well fed bed bug will get longer as it's engorged with blood.

It’s a bit hard to see in the photo sorry, it’s fuzzy/hairy too. But yeah, I’m looking for bed bugs but I haven’t seen any evidence of them, aside from the bites on her which are itchy.

Don't know what it is - but it's not a slater.

The photo shows its quite hairy - I was almost thinking millipede or something similar - though very small.

In hindsight / second thoughts - perhaps that is a bed bug. Some of the fibres in the carpet look like legs in that photo. It's small for a slater - but about the right size for an adult bed bug.

Now I have googled bed bug (and started scratching myself), I think that's what it might be.

When I looked at the photo a full size, I convinced myself if was hairy - but I think that's the carpet fibres.

Another possibility is that's a carpet beetle larvae.

I googled carpet beetle larvae - yes that’s what it looks like. It wasn’t carpet fibre stuck to it. No better picture sorry, it’s been removed and destroyed, along with the others.

I’ll keep an eye out for signs of any bed bugs - I’ve taken all the bed apart and cleaned it, and the sheets are in for a hot wash. Carpet and room has been thoroughly cleaned too.

Quite a process to remove bed bugs....they could be inside your mattress as well....

Also carpet bettle really sucks too...they live under the carpet and eat the underside of the carpet where the knots are that hold the carpet in place...you notice you have a real problem when the carpet starts to disappear after you cleaning generally around the edges of the room. To get rid of it is some heavy chemicals. But if it is, best you get on to it sooner rather than later to limit the damage
