Anyone ever heard about this Russian, uh, "radio station"? It broadcasts on shortwave (proper name UVB-76) and mostly just plays a buzzing sound (as heard at the start and finish of the recording above) but occasionally obscure messages (possibly a code) will be played. Plenty of conspiracy theories about what it's for and who's behind it. Otherwise, what's its purpose, I wonder? Some material for The X-Files possibly :)

As you correctly state ……….. Plenty of conspiracy theories about what it's for and who's behind it.

I heard about this 30 years ago and still no answer. But I do think it's a throw back to the Cold War.

There’s a good episode of the podcast Ungeniused that covers this. Recommend this podcast for short 10-15 minute episodes about various interesting subjects.

Cheers!

True, but it's the only "famous"(?) one that I've ever heard of :)
