I sold something by fixed price offer on TM which had only Ping and Afterpay as payment options.

I then received an email from TM (automated) asking me to send the buyer payment instructions. I thought that Ping and Afterpay were automated?

I emailed TM but their system suggested that they might not get round to answering "for 3-5 days"....!

Anyone shed any light on why the automated system has not done what I was expecting it to do whilst we await TM?

Have you setup payment instructions to auto email?

Purchases via the API (this includes things like bidbud) may not apply. that is to say there is no payment process using the API, so payment instructions need to be sent to direct the buyer to trademe (Won Items) to pay.

Same would be true of auction bids, since the user is not present when the auction closes and the bid is won, they are not there to do the payment process, so they need to be directed through it by way of payment instructions.

I would set your payment instructions email to something like

Please visit your Won Items at trademe to pay for your item.

and set it to be sent automatically.  It will not be sent if they pay during-process, but will be sent otherwise.

As far as I know there is no "special" payment instructions email for ping/afterpay only, so if your payment instructions email is disabled from automatically sending, it wouldn't be sent.

Why would you not want to accept bank deposit as a payment method? I'm pretty sure that Ping and afterpay charge you facility fees for their use. So it benefits you if a buyer is happy to use bank deposit.

For occasional sellers, that is OK, but if you sell a lot bank deposit is a hassle, checking, reconciling, chasing, no reference numbers, incorrect amounts, wrong bank suffixes, wrong bank account numbers, "yeah I already paid that" " not according to me you didn't" ...

Are you confusing ping with poli? Ping is a direct debit authority setup for trademe, just like your electricity company direct debits your account, at least that's how it was when it was first rolled out last year, I have never actually purchase using ping with bank account, just cc . Poli is the dodgy proxy.

I see, It uses direct debit.
I saw on their promo video the user selecting a bank account and then entering a password and I was like, NOPE.jpg
