I couldn't decide what to do with this but thought it was too good to ignore so am just posting it here for what it's worth. In America (where else) a judge has sentenced a deer killer to watch Bambi once a month! Maybe we should also allow more creative sentencing here. Who knows what our judges could come up with? In fact, I will make that the justification for this post. What innovative sentences would you like to see imposed for the common crimes that annoy us all? Use your imagination, people.

My one is boring. Work HARD all day. I want their butts worked off, and in the community as much as possible doing it.

1) Military service instead of prison

2) Breaking rocks 16 hours a day

I was hoping for something a little more creative. This is just vengeance. Like sentencing hit and run drivers to be run over.

What about making him watch a never ending video of every time Trumpy says "I"?

I'd like to sentence the judge that made the "Bambi video" sentence to watching a video of the inmate watching Bambi, I am sure thats such a punishment.

Might make the judge re-think his/her "creative" sentencing in the future.

Logical consequences work well with children so maybe this logical consequence will work with this 29 year old.

When deporting people convicted of serious offences, drop them off halfway to their country of origin. Without parachutes.

For non violent offenders. (Petty theft, domestic first offenders, traffic offenses etc)

Make them pay their yearly cost to the tax payer back in labour at a rate of $10 an hour and if they do not want to do that then the state liquidates their assets to cover the cost of their term in prison, family could contribute etc.
A jail cell starts at 90K a year.

For violent offenders (murder, rape, GBH etc)

Remove humans from Chatham islands, setup supply drops of food, building materials etc and let them create their own community and they can do what ever they want. Have drones patrolling the area and anyone seen going out is kill on sight. I don't care what they do, they can rape pillage murder their own kind till the cows come home.

A sentence is the penalty imposed by the court. But an additional condition may not be considered a penalty or punishment as many conditions are rehabilitate. This includes getting the prisoner to recognise their offence.

We'd have to read the judge's sentencing address to know why he added that condition. None of the news reports I've read mention any reasoning from that report. They just quote other media reports.

Vengeance is part of the punishment, or should be. It should be thoroughly unpleasant and something no offender wants to do again.

The actual sentence was one year prison time, watching Bambi was just an extra condition.

Problem is for me, that most of the crimes I see committed that I care about the sentencing of a lot, are things I wouldn't wish to be done on my worst enemy and doing them to the people who committed them wouldn't be any better.

I do feel that prisoners should be made to work whereever it's practical.

Maybe taggers could be sentenced to cleaning the porta-loos after public events? With toothbrushes?

Anyone remember the movie Escape from Absolom from the 90's ? Criminals just get dumped on an island with an occasional food/weapons drop...... survival of the fittest.
