Just thought I'd share my nightmare service saga with you all. NZ OnePlus fans take note!). When I received the phone back, they had scratched the side of the aluminum rear panel near the alert slider.

Some might remember that I had issues with my 3T camera not focusing. Since I purchased it from a reseller locally, I contacted them to arrange repair/replacement. They eventually agreed to replace the camera unit. When I received the phone back, they had scratched the side of the aluminum rear panel near the alert slider.

I again complained about this and, after a lengthy email chain with photos of the damage, they agreed to replace the rear cover. At this point, whilst it had been a frustrating journey, I was quite happy with the reseller's efforts to remedy the entire situation.

Last week I finally got the phone back, took it out of the box and boy, did it look brand new. But something didn't feel quite right. Usually the phone is quite cool to the touch... The back of the phone felt different, the logo didn't look as crisp as before. I tap the rear panel... its plastic. Cheap, trashy plastic...

I've already contacted the reseller to express my horror, frustration and pure outrage. Now I have to wait for a response.

Later in the comments:

Unfortunately it is PB Tech. Fingers crossed that your phone has no issues during your ownership.

Kind of glad I chose to go with Computer Lounge and not PB Tech for most of the parts for my PC build by the sounds of it.

Also had an interesting experience with them when I bought a phone off them 5 years ago. It had a small bubble under the screen that would not go away no matter what, clearly a manufacturing defect. They tried to offer me free cases and accessories, and eventually replaced the phone when I questioned what a free case would do towards fixing the bubble under the screen...

It sounds like they're turning into another Expert Infotech. I hope I'm wrong though.

They have since retracted their statement that it was plastic along with deleting the posts quoted above

OP UPDATE: I was wrong. Rear panel replacement is aluminum after all. The marks that made me suspect it was non-genuine simply appear to be damage caused either when being installed by the service technician or during the shipping or handling of the spare part.

I've spoken to PB Tech about this at length and they have offered a resolution to me and have apologised for the number of issues I've had with the return/service.

Thanks to Boris at PB Tech for his help in dealing with the entire situation and working to resolve this to my satisfaction.

My faith in PB Tech as a parallel importer of OnePlus has definitely been restored.

The perils of jumping to (wrong) conclusions.
