I have used youshop in the past, usually things went smoothly and the price was around $30nzd for shipping small packages to NZ.

This time though, price is now $43 to ship (I'm guessing the package is small but maybe amazon put in a big box?).

Also, the service is not so good as the previous times I used them . My goods have been sitting in limbo at the US warehouse since monday, stuck at 'ready to dispatch'.

I will reconsider using youshop in future. There are ways around bypassing youshop. It depends though, but, I will account for the increase in youshop prices when figuring out the best option.

Are you opting for their cheaper option? Usually says it will be slower (and does not accumulate airpoints dollars).

I've always found it to take about the same time as their more expensive option, but saves about $10-15

i thought they did it on weight, not size of parcel

You can check the calculations of a parcel on the YouShop website (and this shows before you pay for it, so you've got a good idea as to how the price was reached), eg my most recent parcel shows as:

Weight 1.1kg

Dimensions 35 x 28 x 15cm

Volumetric weight 2.94kg

That parcel came in at $30, which I thought wasn't too bad (using the slower option, of course).

With the number of products Amazon now ship directly it wouldn't surprise me if they've had a big drop in shipments ex Amazon.

With our last experience with Youshop (took 6 months to get the package. First it was lost, then found again a couple of months later, and then we had to chase them to get them to release it in the end), I think we will probably be using https://www.shipito.com/en/ in the future.

I've had my first problem with Youshop with my most recent parcel - until this, I'd had no issue with the price or service.

I accidentally sent the parcel to my friend's house rather than mine, a distance of many hundreds of ks (I think the address their system defaults to is the most recently used, not a 'default').

So far my fault, but I realised I could have it redirected to another address provided that was within 75km of the original, so I do that. The system accepted that and I received emails confirming the new delivery address.

So come Tuesday the parcel turns up at the original (and wrong) address; I ring them up and they argue it couldn't possibly be that parcel as their system shows it's not been delivered. So I have my friend take a photo showing the ID matches the YouShop order, send that through to NZ Post, and pointing out not only the failure to deliver to the correct address but also the discrepancy in their system stating the parcel wasn't delivered.

Get a response the same day asking for a photo as evidence of the parcel's ID, as they can't be sure it's the same parcel as their system says it's not been delivered yet.

WTF?!

Unsurprisingly, I got a little bit shirty having already provided evidence/explained the inconsistency with their systems. Also, not too surprisingly, I haven't heard a peep since.

Whether I use YouShop again will strongly depend on how well they handle resolving this, and thus far they're doing a pretty poor job...

Volumetric weight What is this? 3.92 kg

They also added a $6 'high value' fee because my shipment is $210USD (has that always existed)?

The actual contents are approx 24x22x11cm. That box seems quite large for the items i ordered.

As your big box of mostly air is taking up otherwise usable space, couriers and airlines use a volumetric weight system. This is normally the expensive part for shipping most items.

From YouShops's website - Volumetric weight (kg) = [length(cm) x breadth(cm) x height(cm)] / 5,000cm

Economy rate is $9 per parcel, plus $3.50 per 500g. You have 1 parcel so $9

As your parcels volumetric weight is greater it is used. 3.92kg is charged at 4kg. So thats 8x$3.50 = +$28

High value +$6

Total = $43

Yeah, I've found Amazon's packaging can be on the 'generous' size! (Not sure if this is where your item was from?) Not an issue if it's shipping directly to NZ, but a costly (for us) business practice if using a re-shipper. And the problem is you've no idea the size of packaging they'll use before ordering the item, so can't predict the reshipping cost. I guess there's the option to return the item back to the retailer if it comes in at a stupidly inflated cost?

That is the problem with reshippers, you may not know the size of box the sender is using. I thought they repackaged stuff into smaller boxes as shown at https://support.nzpost.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/2648/~/repacking-youshop-parcels Although it does say 'may'.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at getting some parts from Hipshot Products in a few months but might avoid Youshop for this now. I used Youshop last time, which was about 2 years ago due to the ridiculous international shipping prices their website shows. Youshop were quite fast and well priced then.
