Since there is currently a bit of a discussion about lottery winnings in another active thread, I thought it might be an idea to start a thread specifically about this topic.

Off the top of my head I would:

  • Pay my mortgage off.
  • Pay my sister's mortgage.
  • Buy my dad a place of his own.
  • Do everything around my house I've ever wanted to do.
  • Go on an overseas trip.
  • Replace all of my old worn out items with new ones.

Put it in the bank.

Boring, but someone had to say it.

I'll tell you in a few weeks when I win the big one. Actually I might be too busy to post on GZ.

I'd tell the world I'd won $100,000 which I could claim would justify the purchase of a fairly decent car, fixing up stuff around the house, and a couple of nice holidays. This is not enough of a sum to trigger every man and his dog to writing begging letters.

For the rest of the $10 million, I'd keep that a secret from everyone except the missus, and I'd find a trusted financial adviser with expertise in that area who could set myself and family up with a good, if non-flashy income stream for the rest of my days.

I just came back from Santorini, I'd move over there, and not work.

$10 million isn't enough, but if I had $10 billion, I would hire a bunch of homeless people to paint the town red one night.

Pay off the mortgage.

Invest the remainder which at a reasonable return should give me an income of about $400,000.

Go and do anything I wanted.

Pretty sure 10M would get you quite a lot of paint and homeless people :)

BTW I strongly recommend using paint brushes instead! ;)

Pay off direct family mortgages, throw some funds to in-laws etc, get car I want, nice 6 month cruise, rebuild house to my specs, a boat with decent fishing gear and space to have mates on board for weekends away, and a good BBQ.

Could probably do all the above for under $3mill so I wont be greedy ;)

I'd spend lots of it on beer and loose women...the rest I'd just squander.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

  • DONT TELL ANYONE especially my immediate family.
  • still work but try and cut down my days to 2 - 4 day weeks
  • pay off my mortgage
  • buy a new house outside of Auckland ( I have my eye on two )
  • Have a few charter boat skippers on speed dial to go fishing when I want
  • Have a helicopter company on speed dial, why drive when you can take off from your front lawn.
  • Buy a hovercraft – can launch from either of my dream property’s.
  • Travel first class.
  • Set up a property / investment company to employ my niece and nephews as I have no kids. ( like the Todd family )
  • Get a few new cars, One for me, one for the wife and a SUV so I can fit in when we drive to Auckland.
  • Learn a musical instrument
  • Go to concerts – Wembley stadium / Hollywood Bowl

* purchase a house, outright

* clear all my debts and cut up my credit card

* buy the car I want (which actually isn't that expensive)

* quit my job and do what I actually want to do for a living (as opposed to what I need to do)

* take my boys for a tour of the country

* give all my immediate family something

* put some into a trust fund for my boys for when they turn older

Of course, the chance of winning that much in Powerball is extremely slim to almost nil, so I daresay a lot of the things on this list will (mostly) remain dreams for the rest of my life...

Tell very few people the truth. Possibly tell others that we won a share of $1m to explain change of circumstances if they get suspicious.

Invest it and live off the interest.

Retire from full-time paid employment. Possibly get a cruisey part time job, or volunteer somewhere to get out of house and meet people.

Build new house to our specs, with big workshop. But tools/toys to fill it. Join local Menz Shed?

Travel, (probably include Santorini).

Donate to selected NZ charities, eg St. Johns, Guide Dogs, CF, Sallies, etc.

Enjoy life!
