Hi - wasn't sure where to post this - so here I am.

We have a Siemens HiPath PBX here at work. People call in and select from a range of options.

After hours, one of those options gets diverted to a mobile phone.

The problem is, the person answering the mobile phone only sees the caller ID of the main line here at work - they don't see the caller ID of the actual caller.

I understand that effectively the PBX is making a call to the cellphone and that's why we see that main number, but is there no way to 'transmit' or forward on the caller ID of the original caller?

I asked the company who installed it and they told me no....but somehow I don't believe them. I need confirmation from a technically minded community such as this.

Please help if you can.

Is it connected by SIP or traditional PSTN ?

No - you cannot fake your outgoing caller ID here.

I suspect Centrex lines might let you do so - as the call would be handed back to the exchange, and free up the lines, but using a PBX you get 'tromboning' - 1x call in plus 1x call out, both lines active for a call diversion/forward.

The outgoing part of the call from the PBX is no different from lifting your handset and dialling - its just bridged to another FXO rather than an FXS.

Using a traditional PSTN line there is no way. Your PBX is answering the call, creating another outgoing call and then bridging both calls. There is no way to force the outgoing callerid to be the same as the inbound since that would require "spoofing" the CID which all carriers prohibit.

If you use a VoIP connection there are ways to do this.

What you can do in this situation is have the pbx call your cellphone, play a pre-recorded message giving you the option of answering it with say #, playing the callerid to you by pressing a different key using festival (then press # to answer the call if you like the callerid) or ignore/hangup for it to go to your regular office voicemail.

Actually Tony I think what this is presenatation of true AParty on redirect, this will actually depend on the type of forward, is it a call forward or call transfer, I think I have seen this model pass through some VOIP testing and it will under a VOIP setup but possibly not under a ISDN setup as it requires the Calling , Called and Redirecting Number info.
