Just wondering how other people spend evenings. With two young kids at home you can't really go out. With neighbours you can't use power tools so mostly end up watching TV shows and movies but it feels somewhat unproductive. Would love to game (either computer or board) but wife is not really into it.

So that time period between 8 and 11 what do you do?

Great question! I'm surprised nobody has thought of it before. Here a pensioner household and our evenings are always spent in the lounge with the telly on though we don't always watch it with both eyes. Usually I am also on my laptop like right now, cruising around Geekzone and elsewhere. Eventually we have dinner and retire. That is pretty much it.

I get out as much as I can, walking with my kids. I can't just sit around the house watching TV, it bores me (unlike my Dad, who loves his hunting/fishing shows etc).

We've been going out for walks in the evenings but the weather is rubbish lately so either I'm working, or get "sent" to my Man Cave to game.

Currently playing Half Life Alyx and loving it!

Since lockdown started I've been listening to more music, particularly the daily lockdown cover by Shaun Preston on Faceook. Also spend a lot of the time working, as with a toddler at home it's hard to get enough hours in during the day. Also reading, eating bad food, messing around online, and anything other than TV / movies. I went off TV / movies around the time my son was born, too much noise woke him up and I haven't really gotten into anything since. I tried "Picard" but nothing really happened.

In the shed, playing around with whatever tat I saw on youtube and then ordered off aliexpress mostly. With the whole work when I can from home thing this week its meaning I have to be around the computer incase someone calls about work so cant really be out there in the day so despite not having to leave the house, I am not as productive on me projects as I had hoped.

Late afternoon riding bikes with the kids, after that cooking dinner, doing dishes, reading stories to the kids and the occasional movie.

I've been learning about Laravel. But just sit on a laptop in front of some "background TV", while my wife games haha.

Cook dinner, watch some TV. The memsahib usually heads to bed at least 3 hours before me, so once she heads up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire, I usually go and do some work for a while as I am not interrupted by dogs etc as they are all sleeping.

Sometimes I will head out to do some astrophotography if the weather is clear and the moon not interfering. By about 2300 I am usually thinking of a glass of milk and an hour buried in a book before bed.

I'm trying to balance family and myself at the moment. So every 2-3 nights I'm gaming online with friends.

Otherwise I'm either watching TV or playing a board game with the wife and kids.

Lucky I like my board gaming hobby and so have a nice collection of games. Also getting into tabletop simulator to get an on-line fix with my normal gaming group every so often :).

We have also just extended our bubble to my parents so they came around for dinner last night. That was nice.

And next week we get to start a bedroom renovations and soon I'll be painting into the evening I suspect...

Since I started working from home I have been going to bed at 9pm and getting up at 7am and the extra downtime has made a big difference. I have also extended my working day slightly so that I can have a long lunch break to go for a run and then watch the Ashley and Jacinda show at 1pm.

So, that leaves little time in the evenings for anything other than cooking dinner, doing washing, making the bed, etc.

I get up at 5 am every day so I'm in bed by 9:30 every night. After work, I'll do some exercise - run, bike, walk - then dinner, watch the news and a TV program or 2 and that's about it. I do stuff that requires concentration first thing in the morning like reading or work on document writing for work.

Cook dinner, wash and clean up then usually a few shows on streaming, either something my wife and I watch together, or, sometimes our daughter will watch with us. Weekends is usually family movie on Fri / Sat night (I say family, but since my son discovered VR on his PC, he hasn't joined us in quite some time). I'll sometimes go off to another room for tv/movie if the wife and daughter want to watch their trash tv shows.

After the kids are down and the chores are done my wife and I will usually watch an episode of something and then she retires for an early night. I usually then go into the man cave and watch something else, game, read a book, watch YouTube, have a call with a mate etc. I'm usually up until around 11pm, sometimes midnight. Nothing too exciting, just chilling.

After dinner it is a walk with the dog, then some exercise for myself (either weights or indoor bike ride) and then I blob in front of the computer, alternating between downloaded TV shows and movies, Netflix, Disney+ and YouTube. About 9.30pm I head for the shower, before bed

After work I'll normally go for a run, anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on what's on my schedule and on rest days, walking with the kids and puppy. Dinner prep is next then settle down for the evening. We either watch a movie or tv series as a family, or off to do our own thing depending on how sick we are of hanging out with each other hahahaha. I've been learning to play the guitar since this lockdown started and finding it tough but it's always something I wanted to do. If not that then playing games on PC (Borderlands 3) or reading. Usually in bed by 9:30-10pm.
