Asked Youshop about sending a cellphone phone using sea freight. Got this response.

For shipments from the US, you will need a Material Data Safety Sheet (MSDS) specific to your item. This can be requested from your merchant.

Failure to provide the required documentation will lead to increased handling times.

Does anybody know one would get one of these?

Youshop seems very inconsistent about batteries. I just received a package via sea freight containing Bluetooth headphones with no such request.

Any experiences with other freight forwarders who might not be so rigid?

Try Google for the MSDS for the phone model. You might get lucky. Otherwise ask the place you bought it from.

Had the same experience with youshop. Ended up losing $800 due to their incompetence and as youshop is not NZ based there is no come back. I provided them with the sds sheet prior to shipping was told it was fine then was rejected at youshop. Youshop then proceeded to lose the package with out reimbursement. Youshop is such a fail of a business model I cant understand how its still being promoted here.

Youshop is owned by NZ Post (which is owned by the NZ Government) and there definitely is comeback.

If you provided documentation to Youshop and they confirmed it was Ok - and then rejected it later - you should push a claim.

Maybe it was the retailer with whom you were dealing who was incompetent or dodgy.

I haven’t used Youshop over the past year or two but used it a lot in the past - and never had a problem.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I got a Youshop request last week for SDS (=MSDS) for some pool water testing chemicals I'm having shipped from the US.

Supplied the DSD to Youshop, and a couple of days later received a "cleared to ship" message.

It's correct that they are so inconsistent about shipping items, including Lipo batteries. I had a really annoying experience with them a year or so ago with a Nest thermostat - the battery is less than a specified limit and is contained in the original item, and the same item had been shipped by them 6 months prior. Eventually went with another forwarder more - ahem - forward thinking.

Today - another Youshop issue: a merchant didn't include the "CSxxxx" number on the address label to Youshop. In trying to use the online contact form to alert Youshop UK to look out for the parcel's arrival, you get an error saying they're too busy to have an online contact form!? Seriously, Youshop??!
