Reusable coffee pods for Nespresso - any feedback please?
Came across this site: www. Forevercoffeepods.com and heaps of similar offerings on AliExpress.
My machine is Nespresso Delongi EN520
Anyone tried reusable stainless steal ones? How was it? Practicality and taste wise..

What is the point of these?  Surely, if you're going to faff around filling pods with coffee, you might as well just use a proper espresso machine and cut out the middle man.

Good point. Also, Nespresso has a good aluminium recycling program - just return the pods to them or drop them for free at many of the garden centres around the country.

Right, typical. Having no experience with the question at hand the advisers are trying to point me in absolutely different direction without understanding the reasoning behind the question.

Well, here is the reasoning:
A) Original pods - I do not trust what is inside, may well be just synthetic stuff
B) I had various numerous espresso coffee machines before, relatively expensive (up to $2k) and not so expensive (circa $1k) They all die within 2-3 years or internal parts corrode, making coffee taste bad.
C) Not much space on the table, hence utilizing existing remaining relatively portable machine was considered ... The previous portable smallest espresso machine died too.

They work fine just don’t pack them too tight. We use it for hot chocolate as we can’t get chocolate pods anywhere in NZ at the moment . I got the ones from Ali express stainless steel and come with a sticker lid to cover the pod. I often permanently them up and put them in the pod stand

We had a set of reusable pods for a different branded machine that would eject the pod into a hidden holding location. Would mean we would have to fish out the used pod each time to refill it. Had 4 pods and usually 5 people wanting coffee.

Went to a full automatic machine. Less mess/fuss

Not sure if your machine would do the same thing, might end up with the same issue ??

My wife has a set of 5 re-usable Sealpod branded pods. They have an aluminium type sticker that you seal over each one after refilling. Apparently, that helps get the pressure right. She did a bit of experimenting early on to get the grind and fill right, now they seem to work well for her. I think it was primarily driven by lack of options for Decaf.

So they get you by selling sheets of aluminium stickers ? Is the idea to have a number of pods and fill/seal them all at once ?

Tried refilled aluminium pods years ago when they were a novelty.

They are fine for taste, but I gave up as it was just too fiddly and tend to make a mess on the bench.
Now I order pods from Nespresso.

It's not synthetic stuff, from all we know :"The Nespresso capsules contain only fresh roasted and ground coffee with the exception of the flavoured coffees (Vanilla Éclair, Caramel Créme Brulee, Cocoa Truffle) which also contain natural flavours added to fresh roasted and ground coffee."

AS for the longevity of your machines, something else is happening. Is the water a problem? Are you descaling the machines every few months? I have a Nespresso CitiZ registered with them on 1 September 2012 and still making coffee with same flavour profile as before. That's a ten-year-old machine. The machine before that lasted five years.

If you do not have much space then working to fill those capsules will just make a mess. I'd check why your machines are dying.

@freitasm
Water is 3 stage super filtered and I have electronic tester for the water quality
The machine I have left is made in Italy. Just another reason to keep.
The only reason all previous machines had died is because that c$@p is made in China.
I have also dismantled 2 machines which have died at my mate's place and saw the engineering, quality and degradation of internal parts - shocking...
P.S. Descaling is a myth, just another chemical product they want you to buy. When you open the heat element and take apart pipes (bronze and aluminium parts) where the water travels - you'll see it all by yourself.

Scale/descaling is a myth? No, it's really not.

I got some that are white with a red seal off aliexpress for both my nespresso and dolchey gutso machine and they're hopeless. Let the dusty parts of the ground coffee thru, often will just have clear water or else totally clog up and take about 2 mins to fill a cup depending on how you look at it when you load it and they will often open when dropping into the bottom tray leaving loose manky we coffee in there. If I am going to mess about loading coffee into something I may as well use the cheap espresso machine that at least I can have some consistancy with how I tamp it.

Ok, thanks everyone, appreciate your time to type your thoughts.
I'll park it for now with "no decision" being made.
Won't be looking into this thread or visiting GZ from tomorrow for a while.
Huge project just popped-in tonight, will keep me 100% busy for the next couple of weeks.
Stay safe in these challenging times.
