We are just about to sell our Nissan Primera and its due for a service... one thing that has come up with people interested in the car is the fact that when it changes from 1st to 2nd gear (its automatic) it can sometimes be quite rough.

Im trying to find a decent and not too expensive Vehicle servicing place in Wellington which would also help identify the problem with the transmission.

Alternatively, do any of you know anything about auto transmissions? What it might mean if this is the problem...could it just need a sepearate auto transmission service to clean filters etc?

While im on the subject, one other thing that happens alot is when you start the car sometimes it stalls and doesnt want to "Catch". Ive had the battery looked at and recently had service for that too and apparantley it was still fine. Theyve checked the idle speed thing as well... it seems to do it more though when its been sitting unused, or if its been in the sun for a few hours or even when its just reallly cold (maybe its all the time?)... anyone know anything about what might be causing this? If I put my foot on the gas for a bit it makes it work fine!

Thanks in advance

I've used hutt automatics for automatics servicing for a number of years.  I think they have an office in the hutt and town.

I have a manual Primera but the idle speed thing is possible an airflow sensor common fault in the P10/P11 model (pre the new shaped primera.) Ihave the same issue in mine and it has been there since the day i bought 5 years ago.  Never been an issue.

I am not much of car person but I joined the nissan primera car club a few years back and they were awesome when it came to fault finding, parts etc or even someone in the area to help you with repairs etc.

Hutt automatics only have a branch in the hutt now, you could also try Pharazyn auto's which are also in the hutt

A Honda I was driving wasa bit rough in lower gears, but after it came out from a full service it was a lot better. They just flushed out the transmission fluids etc and put fresh stuff in.

It pays to get them serviced every 20,000km. Contrary to popular belief automatic transmissions are actually very reliable if they're maintained correctly, but unfortunately a lot of people tend to neglect them.
