I don't know what the exact details are but I took my commercial van to the tinting shop in Hamilton. Told him to do it as dark as possible (within legal limits). Did all windows/back windscreen. The front windscreen was left in it's original condition. Cost was $400 ~ 3 years ago. Took 5 hours for the job.

Do whatever you want to do man.

35's around foryour car. if you have a vehicle that can have more than 9 seats (ie van) or an exempt classed vehicle (ie limo etc) you can do 35's front windows, then behind the driver any darkness. Check out the govt site

back is 35% front is 70% on a class MA car. Go to land transport site, search for "virm" look at the vision section.

Yep so its settled 35% tints on the front side windows and the back side windows and you can also have 35% on your back windscreen thats on a MA class vehicle. dam will this guy on trademe needs to changes his tints he as 5 percent all around expect for the windscreen.

this kinda sucks tho i looked a 35 percent tinted car and it hardly looks like its been tinted at all. its like they love to take the fun out of everything

from NZ Transport Agency WOF manual:
Glazing performance
10. A windscreen visible light transmittance (VLT) must
be at least 70%.
11. Front side windows VLT must be at least 35%.
12. Glazing must not have a mirrored eff ect sufficient to
dazzle other road users.

http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/certifiers/virm-in-service-wof-only/general-05-v3.pdf

Reasons for rejection
Glazing condition
5. A piece of glazing is not mechanically sound, or is not
securely affi xed to the vehicle.
6. A windscreen or front side window is so obstructed
that the driver?s vision is impaired.
7. A windscreen has damage that prevents the wiper
blades from working properly.
8. A windscreen has scratches, discoloration or other
defects that unreasonably impair the driver?s vision or
compromise the strength of the windscreen.
Condition within the critical vision area (CVA)
9. The critical vision area (CVA) of a windscreen
(Table 5-1-4) is damaged (apart from scratching and
surface pitting that does not aff ect the driver?s vision
such as small stone marks).
Condition outside the CVA
10. A windscreen has damage (Note 3) of the types and
exceeding the dimensions in Table 5-1-6.
11. Any damage that extends through more than one
layer of glass.
Glazing performance
12. The overall visible light transmittance (VLT) (Note 4) of
a windscreen is less than 70%.
13. The overall VLT of a front side window is less than 35%.
14. Glazing has a mirrored eff ect suffi cient to dazzle
other road users (unless it is OE and has an approved
standard marking).

that would be an ecumenical matter

The silly thing is some Jap imports coming into the country have factory tinted glass which is lower than 35% but has the safety standard emblem so it is OK. If you took an identical NZ model and tried to apply a tint lower than 35% you are not allowed.

well for me its not about being a boy racer i don't race i only got a 1.6 leater engine never had a traffic fine to date i just want sone Privacy in my car with out poeple looking at me all the time.
and im not a wanna be gangsta im not a gangsta

there is line between Boy Racer and car enthusiast. i believe boy racers like to do there cars up then race and wreck them doing silly things like burn outs. car enthusiast like to do there cars up make them look nice treat them with respect and drive them how they are meant to be driven show them off maybe but not by trashing them.

Anyways thats just my opinion i think we should be able to have our back windows 5% and and front ones 35 i dont see how 5% is going affect our vision if its on the back windows

Yeah I agree there is a difference between racers and enthusiasts... I just don't see the point in showing off and glamming up something that just gets you from A to B.
