Any comments / recommendations about Infoaxe?

I received an email from them saying an overseas colleague has "added you as a friend". Being of a generation before most on this site, I am uncomfortable about such sites (especially one I have not heard of previously).

It is likely(?) my colleague did add my name (I can easily check that) but without better assurance I am still reluctant to sign up to this type of site, especially as it appears to retain a complete record of user's browsing history.

Not concerned about the individual sites I visit, but I am not comfortable with yet another organisation (start up at that) having a complete record of everything I have done. Even if the current owners are completely well intentioned, there is no assurance wrt future owners or hacking of the site etc.

Comments would be appreciated

How would he have added you as a friend if you haven't signed up to the site already?

Personally I'd stay away, but that's just me.

Maybe contact your colleague and ask him about it?

Guess it is similar to Facebook in that regard. Presumably they just put me down as a friend & provide my email address.

Have received a couple of similar emails from Facebook (again people I know have put me down as a friend). The links in the Facebook emails lead to a webpage that requires joining Facebook before I can reach the friends Facebook site. Not yet. Being self-employed, there seem potential commercial issues that I prefer to avoid at this point.

I will ask my friend but would still want other assurance about Infoaxe before any "sign in" on the site.

DS248: Being self-employed, there seem potential commercial issues that I prefer to avoid at this point.

Ignore any future emails from Infoaxe, there's not much they can do if all they have is an email address.

Regarding Facebook, you can setup privacy controls to limit what others can see. I too am self employed, but have limited my profile to only people who I have as friends. If you do a normal search for my name, all you find is a small picture of my partner and I, and my nickname. You only get to see everything if I add you.

2. Infoaxe makes it easy for you to keep up with what your friends are sharing/reading on the Web.

The basic idea is that you can share your reading on sites (that you choose) with friends (you choose).

We offer convenient ways to control what websites get added to your web memory and also to delete websites and pages from your web memory after they get added.

Because we wanted to offer portability of a user's browsing history across computers/browsers we need to store the data on our servers. I guess this is your main worry. I guess its a trade off :( You know what works best for you.
