Hi Everyone,

I just got a new Subaru and it is unknown to the previous owner or myself if the cambelt has been done. Whilst having a look around the car I found the following sticker on the inside of the glove box.

What I would love is if someone is able to translate this for me and possibly save me $1000 to get it changed!

The 129,000km leads me to believe it is definately to do with the engine, but whether it is oil, or cambelt or whatever I have no idea!

Translates to "next filter change September 2006"
Whether that is oil or air I couldn't say.

Oh ok thanks heaps for that.. seems that the cambelt may still need changing and it costs a hefty $1k!

With Subarus, it does cost to get the cam etc done but get the works done while youre there and you'll be thankful for it later. So get cam, water pump, sparks etc done at once. Dont skimp on the spark plugs, get decent ones which will last or you'll just end up shelling out more again to get them replaced sooner than later.

The 129,000 most likely refers to when the cambelt was last changed.

Oil filters are usually replaced (along with the oil) every 10,000kms, and airfilters are a lot more frequent than every 100,000kms.

Cambelts are typically done around the 100,000km mark and its common practice to put a sticker around the engine bay stating when it was last done.

How many kms on your car?

It has done 170,000 and no its not cambelt I have had many people translate it and they all say filter. No sticker in engine bay etc so going to get it done at winger subaru tomorrow

Damn 1k, hope you priced around beforer going to the stealership. Re that sticker, it may have a cabin polon filter or something. Would explane why that sticker is in the cabin.

129000km also refers to the next filter change.

translations is roughly

"next filter change Sept 2006 or 129000km"

lxsw20 , 1k for a decent subaru service is pretty standard.

Damn good cars but youve got to look after them, and unfortunately it costs.

Damn good cars alright. Just took mine for a cruise and I am so happy with it.

I did take into account the cambelt having to be done and in fact I actually got it for $1k cheaper because I said to the seller I will have to do cambelt and it will cost me $1k so yeah cheaper than he wanted but I'm stoked!

I had a 96 GT wagon that had a few minor tweaks done before I bought it... once I got the broken Y joint in the exhaust fixed, it drove like a new car. :) As mentioned above, I miss that car :-p
