Last time it was done the pool shop charged several $100 for it, which is typical overpricedness for them (oh, but they did an "electrical test" on it as well which is apparantly worth $35 or soemthing)

So I need to change the bearings again, anyone know howto? Its a FPI one thats as old as the pool I guess (early 80's) - I cant figure out how the black impeller assembly comes off the end of the motor to even see the bearing at that end.

Otherwise if you know of a non pool place that will do it at a decent price and forgo the unwanted electrical test (or not charge $35 for a test and tag that isnt needed for domestic use) that would be a good alternative. Im a poor broke student so cant afford massive pool shop markups on things ;)

I think the impeller normally unscrews (counter clockwise) while holding the shaft still...

Got that off, but its looking like the bearings are totally corroded into the aluminium ends of the motor, and the thing that seals where it goes into the pump housing seems to be leaking which is probably why the front bearing is the state its in...

Can see a circlip on the shaft at the back but its not stopping the shaft coming out of the bearing, it would stop it going in further. reluctant to start percussive persuasion on it at this stage but I cant see any other way they are being held in. There was a plate on the bearing at one end that is now free..

The last motor I changed bearings on was not corroded to hell and they just popped out.

Perhaps that rumpty shed was over the pump for a reason... Oh well. Will make something for it once its working this time...
